Conversations with Chaterria (Terri) Perry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaterria (Terri) Perry.

Chaterria (Terri), we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I picked up photography five years ago during the height of COVID, simply looking for a hobby to get me out of the house. What started as a creative outlet quickly blossomed into something more. I began by sharing wildlife shots on Facebook, then capturing candid moments of my nieces and nephews just for fun. That fun turned into requests from friends and family for their own photo sessions—and before I knew it, a passion was turning into a profession.

An incredible opportunity to shadow and be mentored by a seasoned wedding photographer opened the door to the wedding world, and I haven’t looked back since. Today, I’m a flourishing photographer based in the RDU area, specializing in weddings, families, and maternity sessions. I’m continuing to grow, expand my offerings, and embrace wherever this journey takes me next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely not been an easy road—photography is so much more complex than most people realize! Beyond just clicking a button, it’s a true art form filled with endless techniques, creative vision, and a constant drive to evolve. The industry itself is big and incredibly competitive, and getting your footing—especially while navigating slow seasons—takes a whole lot of patience, passion, and persistence.

But even with the ups and downs, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. Every challenge has pushed me to grow, every win has felt so earned, and the joy of capturing meaningful moments for others makes it all more than worth it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Weddings and families—those are the moments that truly make my heart melt. There’s just something so special about capturing love in its purest forms, and I absolutely adore being part of those stories. Whether it’s the quiet joy between a couple on their big day or the playful chaos of a family session, I strive to reflect that love in every photo so that anyone who sees it can feel it too.

Even with milestones like graduations, I make it a point to help each graduate recognize the significance of their accomplishment. My sessions are full of laughter, connection, and appreciation for the amazing person in front of my lens. I pour my heart into ensuring every image tells a story that’s just as beautiful as the moment itself.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve been so incredibly lucky to have amazing photographers pour into me throughout my journey—shoutout to K.G Photography, Elizabeth Ashley Photography, and Nellie C Photography! These incredible women have taught me, encouraged me, and cheered me on when I needed it most. Their support has meant the world and truly helped shape the photographer I am today.

And of course, I can’t forget my amazing clients—many of whom have become like family. Your trust, your love, and your stories are what keep me going and inspire me to keep growing. I’m beyond grateful for every single one of you!

I create a relaxed and joyful experience that captures the glow, the anticipation, and all the love that’s growing.
