Meet Chaquonda Ragland of Raleigh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaquonda Ragland.

Hi Chaquonda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have an Associates of Applied Science in Business Administration from Strayer University and over 10 years of experience with the State of North Carolina working in the public service sector. Getting into real estate started with pure curiosity. I’m a North Carolina native, born and raised right here in the capital and I have been passionate about the growing towns and neighborhoods around me for many years which lead me to pursue a career in real estate. I have always been fascinated by homes, how a space can be transformed and what makes neighborhoods thrive but it wasn’t until my sister and brother in-law purchased their third home that I realized real estate could be more than an interest, it could be my career.
At the time, I was working as a Processing Assistant IV for NCDMV, but I felt like something was missing. I wanted complete freedom of my time and to be in a field where I could be my authentic self while genuinely helping people make life-changing decisions. Today, real estate isn’t just my job, it’s my passion and it has allowed me to spend more time with my boys while helping people navigate through one of the biggest purchases of their lives. I’ve built a business rooted in trust, transparency and hustle.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course being in this industry has many up’s but it definitely isn’t always peaches and cream. Working in a 100% commission-based industry means that there’s no steady paycheck so if there’s no closing, there’s no money! Also, everyone “knows a realtor” so standing out in a very saturated market takes creativity, consistency, knowledge and a lot of footwork. It’s also easy to get discouraged when deals fall through due to inspection, appraisal, financing issues or having a client that simply wants to walk away. I would say it’s also a huge struggle carrying your own personal issues while being a therapist and handling every stressful curveball being thrown your client’s way. A lot of people don’t realize how much you have to put the work in because if you don’t, you’re almost guaranteed to fail in this industry.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I don’t just sell homes, I represent possibility, progress and a fresh perspective in an industry that hasn’t always made space for people who look like me. I understand the importance of being seen, heard and truly understood. I easily connect with first-time buyers, young professionals and families who want someone who speaks their language, shares their values and understands their challenges. I’m part of a newer generation of agents who utilize social media, technology and creative marketing to reach people where they are and make real estate more accessible, modern and transparent. I’m not just helping people buy homes, I’m assisting with closing wealth gaps sometimes from credit repair to the closing table. I advocate for each and every of my clients like it’s personal, because it is!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Lol, it’s never “luck” it’s always God!! I like to think that I’m God’s favorite girl, lol!
