Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicol Cunningham
Hi Nicol, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my brand based around sharing my thrifted finds, and a desire to get free clothes from partnering with brands. However, as I stepped into the world of social media I found a community of sustainable fashion brands and girlies that inspired me to adjust my focus. Now instead of only being interested in free clothes I was learning and sharing sustainable fashion. With a passion for fashion, sustainability, and ethical standards I worked hard to get organized, try new things, and put myself out there to get where I am today. The sustainable community has also been a big support in helping my brand grow to where it is today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road because putting yourself out there on social media is intimidating, however, with the encouragement from family and friends I could get myself out of my comfort zone and progress. Some challenges were learning social media tools, such as making reel videos, using editing tools, collaborating with brands, and how to grow my brand.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Right now my professional life and career are in flux, but my goal is to grow my brand and start a buy and re-sale business. I specialize in fashion and content creation and on Instagram I’m known for sharing outfit ideas, tips and tricks on sustainability and thrifting, and new sustainable brands. I’m most proud of the following I’ve grown on Instagram because it’s all organic growth. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t follow trends either fashion or social media, I focus on what will benefit my followers and will make my brand a space they can feel like they’re learning something.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice would be to just get started, be organized, and find a core group of people who will encourage and support your new adventure. I wish I knew to not pay so much attention to the algorithm, it fluctuates all the time so instead of hyper-focusing on it just make content that you feel good about and others will like it too.
