Conversations with Fabiola Plata

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabiola Plata.

Fabiola, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have Been in the hair industry for 24 years. I absolutely love what I do and I am often reminded when my clients face light up with excitement after getting their hair done. There is nothing like the feeling of knowing someone’s self esteem just got a little brighter. I have gone from corporate salon, as stylist, manager, and area supervisor but my favorite is now where I work now, in a private loft where it’s more of a one on one experience with the client.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There was some moving around due to husband’s job, so it was constantly restarting. Started working in my first private Salon Suite in Wilmington and absolutely loved it. I was at my Suite for three years before my husbands job brought us to the Raleigh area. I worked at a couple of salons before I finally opened up my own place again. It’s always a struggle to start again but more so when you’re in a new area. Things had gone smoothly until the past year where I had to scale back big time to make sure I was available for constant doctors appointments for my child’s health. But hey, family first, and I have no regrets. I am slowly getting back into the salon and I am very grateful for my wonderful clients who have been so supportive and patient along the way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been a licensed hairdresser since 2001. I have done everything from perms to relaxers, color, haircuts, waxing, wedding hair, you name it! I love Connecting with clients and my biggest sense of pride and accomplishment is when my clients leave my chair with a bigger smile than when they walked in. With a confidence that makes them glow!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Listening to the client is important. Helping them with their needs whether it is to accomplish a certain style, or with guidance of how they can achieve the look at home as well. I want my clients to love their hair every day not just the day they come to see me.
