Check Out Nikki A Lamers’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki A Lamers.

Hi Nikki A, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Writing has been a part of me for a lifetime. I’ve done all kinds of writing such as journalism, educational materials, grants, scripts, shorts and novels. My favorite kind of writing is fiction with a romance element and an eventual happy ending. So with doing so much factual writing for work, I was desperate to dive back into my creative side and became determined to finally publish my first book.
The Unforgettable Summer is a story I thought would be one and done, but I fell so in love with the supporting cast that I couldn’t stop. The Unforgettable Summer won an Imadjinn Imaginarium Award for Best Romance, a Firebird Book Award for Contemporary Novel, New Adult Novel, Series and Summer and Beach Read. Now the entire series has won awards, as well as other novels, such as Breaking Cycles from my Mending Shattered Hearts Series based in North Carolina. I’ve enjoyed several different collaborations and anthologies challenging me as I dip my toes into other sub-genres of romance. For me it’s all about the characters and I build everything around who they are, how they got there, and who they want to be, including their perfect match.
I worked for a small publishing company for a few years and have gone both the traditional route and self-publishing one for my books. But every single one of them becomes part of my family.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road. The biggest struggle is marketing and finding your audience. Being an author is definitely a road filled with challenges, especially for the self-published novels. I found that my audience is absolutely out there but it’s a constant struggle to be able to share your books and stories. It’s hard to know what companies to trust because there is so much out there, good and bad. I found that there is an amazing community of authors, writers, and readers that are happy to help and I’m grateful for it. We’ve all been there and those friendships and that support mean so much.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an author first with a background in public health, so I incorporate various aspects of health, wellness and life into my stories. I believe I tell stories that connect with people, which is a bonus as I share my characters with you. Outside of being an author, I freelance as an editor and formatter, as well as a script writer, script advisor and script supervisor on and off set in television, film and commercials. I love that my writing brought me back around to also working on scripts. It’s truly a lot of fun. For me, I find it’s just a different way of telling a story and I love all the little details.
As for what I’m most proud of besides my kids, that’s hard to pinpoint just one thing. I believe I’ve learned a lot over the years and I love being able to share my passion for storytelling, whether I’m working on a book, a script, my story, or someone else’s, or even educating others. But what I’m most proud of is every single one of my completed stories, whether they received an award or not. Although, I have to admit, the awards are pretty great.

Any big plans?
My plans for the future are always big and beautiful. I do have a novella releasing in June, a novel in July and more coming out this fall. I’m on a writing team for a psychological thriller film, so that’s different for me, but believe it or not, it’s not my first one. I would love to see one of my own on a big or small screen after working on so many others. I’ve been sketching out plans for a podcast to help writers and I will continue writing romance in various sub-genres and be adding more bookish content to events and my website. Of course, I’m planning more signings and would love to share more with the community.
