Community Highlights: Meet Brittany Laxton of Britt Laxton, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Laxton.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story begins with falling in love with yoga and holistic ways of alleviating stress, like meditation. I went on to complete 2 certifications in yoga, where one included an introduction to Reiki and becoming certified in this modality as well. I fell in love with Reiki because of the mystical nature of it, the calming I felt and I wanted to not only help myself, but help my family and others with this way of healing and finding peace. After several years of having a Reiki practice and helping others, I had a calling to do more Shamanic work, studying with different practitioners and becoming a practicing shaman. I love this work as well as it felt deeper, more primal and connected to nature and my own power in a way I had never known. After working with people for several years as an energy healer in Holly Springs, I felt like there was something missing. I did not want people to rely on coming to me and “fixing” them and then they go about the same things they were always doing and then have to come back to me to “fix” them. I wanted them to have more agency and empowerment. That is when I started to study manifestation and loved how it blended so well with the energy work I was doing. . . but still, something was missing. I had the thought of “why do some people excel in some manifestations and bomb in other areas they want to manifest?” That was when one of my teachers introduced us to why the nervous system was so important in manifesting. I began diving in head first with all things dealing with the nervous system and trauma and realized that this is what was missing in my quest to heal myself. The thing that no one talks about but is integral to every experience I have had and will ever have. I studied with teachers of somatic therapy, embodied processing and became a trauma informed somatic coach. So, all this to say, I traveled down many roads to get to where I am today and feel it in my bones that this is where I am supposed to be right now, this is truly life changing stuff that is backed my science and has been the only thing that has made this big of an impact on my life and my client’s lives. This is the stuff that changes the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha!ha! Smooth road, tell me who has a smooth road? I struggled with so many things, because before this, I was in corporate America, working at a fortune 50o company, very predictable to having to quit to stay at home with my son who was diagnosed with Autism. It forced me to slow down and really evaluate my life. I did a lot of different jobs and mlm companies and even when I got more into my purpose of helping others, I struggled to find the true me, afraid of evolving and changing, not making the predictable money I was used to, not living up to other people’s expectations of me. One of my biggest struggles is that I felt not enough most of my life, even into this business of helping others heal. I realized along the way that I was using a lot of my spiritual practices as a way to spiritually bypass all of my trauma and feelings I did not know how to process. Getting into energy healing was a way for me to try and “fix” myself, I was constantly searching and thinking “If I just knew more”, “If I just get this certification, etc. then I will feel better, more worthy and enough to do what I do” It wasn’t until I learned about our nervous system and trauma that I can say that I am no longer searching.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Trauma Informed Somatic Coach and Healer. I help people to be their own healer. Through somatic practices and using the nervous system, people learn how to heal traumas at the root, where it was experienced and trapped. What people learn is that they have been putting a band-aid over their symptoms their whole life, and they finally learn what is at the root of all of their suffering, emotional, physical and mental. It is like opening your eyes and being able to see for the first time, or as one of my clients likes to say “having the right manual”.

I want people to know that there is a way to change what you experience in life, not just because I say so, but because science proves it. All of your symptoms of stuckness, suffering, maladaptive behaviors, repeatedly being triggered and patterns are held in your nervous system blueprint. The journey to creating more happiness, flow, ease, emotional regulation and resilience and moving towards your desires with greater ease is learning how to befriend this beautiful protective system by integrating past traumas and working with your biology, not just the mind.

One of my greatest missions is to help parents regulate their nervous system and to break these cycles so that their kids don’t have to. Most people weren’t given the tools to navigate having children and how the most important thing you can do and invest in is how to have a regulated nervous system. This sets the foundation for what your children will experience. Everyone always told us that kids are so resilient, but it is not resilience we are seeing when kids “bounce back” it is really a coping mechanism that lives with them for the rest of their lives. I want every parent to feel empowered and trusting their own instincts (you do this through your nervous system) when it comes to their children and what they need. They are the greatest expert, but because of a lot of their unhealed trauma and nervous system dysregulation, we have lost touch with that greatest asset.

What sets me apart is that I get it, I will call myself out, I am still learning this too and make mistakes and I own it. I also like to make it fun and silly too (which is also good for your nervous system).

I offer:
-1:1 Somatic Coaching
-Group Coaching – It Starts With You

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Don’t do it alone. Have at least one person that gets it to help you through the highs and the lows. Go with your passion and not out of fear. Ask for help.
