Growing up in the world of real estate, with my grandfather running his own firm, definitely painted a picture for me. And honestly? It wasn’t one I initially wanted for myself. The constant on-call nature and unpredictable schedule felt like a deterrent. So, I carved out a different path, spending 16 fulfilling years as a teacher. I loved the work, but the financial realities were tough. To make ends meet, I juggled a part-time job alongside teaching. Then, the pandemic hit, and the shift to remote learning was challenging for everyone, including my own kids. It was during this time that my grandfather’s words resonated: ‘Jackie, real estate is in your blood. You know this world. Just do it!’
Hesitantly, I took the plunge. Balancing evening pre-licensing classes with full-time teaching was demanding, but I passed my exams. Still, the move to a commission-based career after years of stable income felt daunting. I eased in, teaching part-time while starting my real estate career. Within six months, I was able to dedicate myself fully to real estate. Now, heading into my fourth year, I’ve consistently capped, opening doors I never thought possible for my children and myself. I’ve discovered a genuine passion for this work and often wonder why I waited so long to make the switch. As a top producer with ownership stakes in the firm and its ventures, the security and opportunities I can provide for my kids as a single mom are truly the best reward. Real estate has given me that.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
You know, they say real estate is rarely a straight line, and I can certainly attest to that! It feels like I’ve encountered just about every curveball the universe can throw at a transaction, both during and even after closing. While some might see these unique challenges as setbacks, I’ve embraced them as invaluable learning experiences. In my relatively short time as a realtor, I’ve already navigated situations that many seasoned agents might never face. These ‘bumps in the road’ have truly been disguised learning opportunities, propelling my career forward and, more importantly, instilling a deep confidence in my clients that I can handle anything and always act in their best interest, no matter what arises.
