Meet Theresa “TeeTee” Cephas of NaturallyComplete919, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa “TeeTee” Cephas.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey in hair care began as a child, sparked by a desire to take my look into my own hands. When I was in the 8th grade, my mom enrolled in cosmetology school. She would often style my hair in roller sets—something I wasn’t too fond of—so I took matters into my own hands. Using her mannequins and, occasionally, my little brother as my practice canvas, I began teaching myself how to braid and style hair.

After many trial-and-error attempts, I eventually grasped the techniques and began working in my first salon at just 14 years old. What started as a hobby quickly grew into a deep passion for natural hair care and styling.

Now, over twenty years later, I’m the proud owner of NaturallyComplete919, LLC, a thriving salon built on love for natural hair, dedication to healthy hair practices, and a commitment to empowering clients through their beauty journey. At NaturallyComplete919, we celebrate the beauty of natural textures and provide expert care tailored to each client’s unique hair needs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For years, hair was my side hustle—a passion I couldn’t let go of, but one I was hesitant to fully pursue. After relocating to Raleigh, I took a huge leap in 2016 and built my own salon from the ground up. But with few connections in a new city, I struggled to build a clientele and kept a full-time job to stay afloat.

In 2019, I took another leap of faith. I left my job and became a junior stylist at a storefront salon, determined to immerse myself in the industry full-time. Just as things began to gain momentum, COVID-19 hit—and like many others, I was forced to pivot.

But in that challenge, I found clarity.

Post-COVID, I returned to the salon I had built years earlier and made the bold decision to work for myself full-time. Since then, I’ve never looked back. Not once have I lacked the resources, support, or strength to provide for my family. I’ve built NaturallyComplete919, LLC into a thriving salon that not only specializes in natural hair, but also serves as a safe space where authenticity, beauty, and community meet.

This journey has been anything but easy—but it’s been worth every risk, every late night, and every moment of faith.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about NaturallyComplete919, LLC?
As a Master Loctician, my passion lies in the care, maintenance, and long-term health of Locs. What began as a love for braiding and natural styling has evolved into a full-time purpose: nurturing all types of Locs—traditional, micro, and sister Locs—with intention, skill, and care.

Over the years, I’ve become known not just for my technique, but for my speed. My clients appreciate that I value their time just as much as I value precision and excellence in my work. Efficient, high-quality service is a cornerstone of what I offer.

Another key part of my journey has been creating and using my own line of hair care products. From loc gels and mousse to all-natural oils, my products are handmade, thoughtfully formulated, and mixed with love—the most important ingredient. These products are an extension of my brand, designed to promote healthy Locs and a strong foundation for natural hair growth.

At NaturallyComplete919, LLC, I’m committed to keeping Locs not only looking good, but truly thriving. Whether you’re just beginning your loc journey or are years in, I’m here to support and celebrate your hair every step of the way.

What were you like growing up?
From a young age, I knew I was different. While others were focused on parties and fun, I found comfort in my books. I kept to myself, not by choice, but as a result of pain. At just 4 or 5 years old, I experienced something no child ever should—an early trauma that caused me to retreat into a shell. Life didn’t ease up. In the 5th grade, I witnessed a man being shot and killed by the police right in front of me on Christmas Day—another moment that shook me to my core.

At 16, my life changed yet again. I was caught in a house fire while asleep and barely made it out. Just a few months later, I was involved in a terrible accident that left me paralyzed and confined to a hospital bed. Doctors told me I would never walk again—and that I would never have children. According to my pastor, a “death angel” had followed me, but by the grace of God, I beat the odds.

Despite the trauma, I was determined not to let it define me. Against medical advice, I began physical therapy and fought to walk again—and I did. From my hospital bed, I kept up with schoolwork, managing to complete high school in just three years. By 17, I had already started college. When I walked across the stage at my high school graduation, I had already finished my first year of college.

Every trial I’ve faced has shaped me into the woman I am today—driven, compassionate, focused, and fearless. My story is not just about survival. It’s about purpose, power, and the unwavering belief that no matter what life throws at you, you can rise.
