Life & Work with Aidan Houghton of Raleigh/Brier Creek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aidan Houghton.

Hi Aidan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved from my home state of New York to North Carolina in 2018 and ended up in Charlotte where I would stay until 2021. I moved to Raleigh in 2023 and began my focus on online creative content. I struggled and gave my all to graduating with a degree because I knew that I needed more skills to thrive in this world. As a previous high school drop out, this was an incredibly daunting task, but I overcame. In May 2025, I graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in advertising, and that skill set plays a massive part in everything that I do today. I worked at Whole Foods so sustain myself financially while I spent the past two years working towards becoming able to pursue this full-time, which has been the case since April 2025 when I was able to quit my traditional 9-5 job. I started out with a TikTok account originally that I didn’t quite understand how to find success on, and one day I decided to start a new account around New Years 2025. In mid January 2025 I posted a video at 2AM that went viral the next day, acquiring 17 million views in the span of a few days before the first TikTok ban occurred. Following the restoration of TikTok, I began expending into other social media formats, and have since started my YouTube that focuses on comedy and food content apart from my TikTok and Instagram, which focus more on my own personal brand image.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There was a lot of struggle to really monetize something like what I do, and I slowly found my niche and ways to make this become a full-time project. I worked at Whole Foods pushing carts and as a cashier to fund my life until I was recently able to quit and focus on this full time. Starting anything that involves cultivating a following is always a struggle within itself, you struggle for years to begin building until everything comes together.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a digital content creator that focuses on TikTok and Instagram primarily these days. I create content that is centered around all facets of myself. My most popular series is my collectibles unboxing series, and I also create a lot of content centered around the LGBTQ+ community. What makes me unique is my format for everything, because in a world where everything has been done before I create new ways of doing the things that people already love to see. I am so proud that I have created a rapidly audience that resonates with what I do and supports me creating stuff for their enjoyment. I began with the goal of making a difference and bringing joy in a world that often stifles it and I think through my creativity that I have achieved everything I ever dreamed.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I took the risk in April 2025 to quit my job and pursue content creation full-time. I had very little money and knew that if I made this choice I would have to commit everything I had into this project. I had to make my entire life about this. I am a massive risk-taker because I know that without sacrifice and without fear I would have never reached the places I am today. I quit my job 2 months ago with only 4,000 TikTok subscribers and a couple hundred on X with even less on Instagram. Today I have 12.5 thousand on TikTok and grow about 100-200 per day, and my X has grown from those few hundred to over 9,000 within the last 2 months while steadily gaining a similar 100-200 per day. Going from gaining 10-20 followers per week to now gaining 10x that per day has shown that my risk really paid off.
