Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooks Owens.
Hi Brooks, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my journey in 2006 as the dance teacher at Cardinal Gibbons High School, launching a program with just 34 students and a big vision. I told the principal on day one: “I want this to be the best dance program in the Triangle.” By 2020, that dream had come true — the program had grown to 280 students, earned awards like Outstanding Choreography on my very first musical, and many of my students went on to major in dance in college. I was able to fly in top choreographers from LA & NYC to teach my students and set choreography for our sold out showcases.
But in my heart, I knew it was time to step into something even bigger.
Fitness had always been a huge part of my life. While teaching, I also led classes at Flywheel Sports (where I won “Most Moving Instructor” from ClassPass in 2017), CorePower Yoga, and Mega Raleigh. In 2019, I created my own method: DanceFIT — a powerful blend of dance, sculpt, and freedom of movement. I couldn’t find the kind of class I was craving in Raleigh… so I built it myself.
In May 2020, just after the pandemic, I made the courageous decision to leave the classroom and pursue entrepreneurship full-time. That’s when Brooks Method Fitness was born. I taught outdoor classes in both 90-degree heat and 20-degree chill, created online fitness programs, and immersed myself in the world of business — studying sales, marketing, and how to build something from the ground up. I launched successful programs and built a loyal, engaged client base.
At the time, I was living with my parents but dreaming of my own place in downtown Raleigh. That vision pushed me to explore tech sales — and in July 2021, I started as an SDR at RevGen, making 110 cold calls a day. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I leaned into my grit, work ethic, and resilience. Three months later, I graduated from the program early and was promoted to manager.
Since then, I’ve led sales teams, earned President’s Club, and built a second chapter of my life rooted in growth and leadership.
And in January 2025, I brought Brooks Method Fitness back — stronger than ever. I now teach DanceFIT on weekends, host pop-up events, and recently launched FitCRAWL, a community-driven fitness experience combining mini classes with myself, F45, and Heights Pilates. Our first one was a hit, and the second is already on the way!
Alongside fitness, I’m also passionate about helping women start their own businesses and increase sales. Using everything I’ve learned from sales, entrepreneurship, and coaching, I created Rooted in Passion: Idea to Income — a program that helps women turn what they love into something profitable. Because honestly? Who doesn’t want to earn an extra $500–$1,000 a month doing something they care about? I have a free guide to find what you are passionate about to start selling in my Instagram bio.
I’m honored to be featured in Raleigh Voyage Magazine and truly believe in helping women feel strong, inspired, and connected — through fitness, community events, and business coaching that turns dreams into action.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve faced my fair share of struggles along the way.
Back in 2020, I launched a program I was really excited about — and no one signed up. It was disheartening, but instead of giving up, I used it as a learning experience. I took a step back and asked myself: Who am I really speaking to? I realized I hadn’t fully defined my Ideal Customer Profile. My audience wasn’t looking for a beginner course — they wanted something deeper, more community-driven, and dynamic.
So, I reimagined the offer and launched a 3-month program that blended weekly outdoor fitness classes, local community events, and online sessions. This time, it landed — and it was a success. That experience taught me to just go for it when I have an idea. If it doesn’t work? I tweak, refine, and listen to what “my people” truly need. Every setback has become a chance to get clearer and more aligned.
Another pivotal moment? My very first week as an SDR. I almost quit. It was overwhelming, intense, and pushed me far outside my comfort zone. But instead of walking away, I reached out to a manager. That conversation led to a call with the CEO, who not only talked me off the ledge but also connected me with extra resources that helped me succeed. That was a major turning point. I excelled after that and was able to graduate the program early and was promoted to manager.
The biggest lesson from that experience? Ask for help. Don’t try to white-knuckle it alone. I’m so grateful I spoke up — because what felt like a breaking point actually became a breakthrough.
I was also laid off in 2024, and I learned so much from the experience- I remember hearing “Today is your last day, this has nothing to do with your performance.” I reached out to my network- your netWORK gets you work- so I joined every networking event, lunch, or gathering. I leaned into my intuition. I actually declined an offer with nothing else in my pipeline of jobs. It was a scary choice but I listened to my gut and bet on myself. I knew that opportunity was not the right fit and to keep going. That is the number one thing I learned- bet on yourself and always take the leap.
We’ve been impressed with Brooks Method Fitness & Coaching, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
With a background in sales, fitness, dance, and marketing, I created BMethod (Brooks Method) — a brand rooted in classes, coaching, and connection. It’s more than just a fitness program — it’s a movement designed to empower women through powerful workouts, meaningful relationships, and business mentorship.
One of my signature offerings is DanceFIT, a unique class that fuses dance, cardio, and sculpting into a beat-driven experience that leaves you feeling strong, free, and energized. The playlists are upbeat (clients ask for them all the time!), and the vibe is unmatched. The women who show up to these classes are truly amazing — we often grab brunch together afterward, and everyone walks away with a new friend or connection. That’s the heart of what I do. I created this class because I couldn’t find what I was looking for, not only a well executed class but the way I felt during and after class.
I love bringing people together, so I also create events that elevate the fitness experience — like my FitCRAWL, a community-based collaboration that features mini classes with myself, F45, and Heights Pilates. Our first one was a huge success, and we’re already gearing up for round two!
Beyond fitness, I offer business coaching and consulting for women ready to start or scale their side hustles. Whether you’re looking to retain loyal clients or generate fresh leads, I help you tap into what lights you up and build something sustainable. My proven method combines mindset mastery, passion-driven strategy, and income growth — and the results speak for themselves.
What I’m most proud of? The people. The community. The connections. A study of over 300,000 people showed that those who feel connected and supported have up to a 91% greater chance of living longer. That stat fuels my mission every day. I’m beyond proud of the community that I am building — and I’m just getting started.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My family has been my biggest cheerleaders from day one — I’ll never forget the day I left my high school teaching job and they surprised me with flowers to celebrate the leap. I’m endlessly grateful for their support, as well as for my incredible tribe of friends and clients who make up the rest of my support system.
I also have to give a special shoutout to Alicia, the owner of Mega Raleigh. In the summer of 2019, when I was still just dreaming up DanceFIT, she encouraged me to go for it — and even opened up her space to me while she was still building her own business. Her belief in me meant the world, and I’m forever thankful for her trust, support, and generosity.
