Today we’d like to introduce you to Keisha Troy.
Hi Keisha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Keisha Troy relocated to North Carolina in the 1990s from Detroit, Michigan, where she completed her primary education. She began her journey as a braider in her mother’s salon, while also taking theater classes and participating in numerous stage productions. Eventually, she became a licensed cosmetologist and opened her first salon in 2015 (Creations Of Elegance Salon). In 2023, she expanded her business by launching a second location rebranding to C.O.E Salon Suites. Making her the first in Fayetteville to operate multiple salon suite locations within the city.
Keisha also self-published her first eBook, “The Guide to Opening Salon Suites”, which inspires beauty professionals to establish their own salon spaces. After 18 years in the hair industry and a decade as a salon owner, she chose to step back from the styling chair to pursue her acting career, recently landing a role in a movie titled “Pardon Me”, with more opportunities on the horizon.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would be dishonest if I claimed that any path I’ve taken has been without obstacles. However, I truly value the bumps along the way, as they have deepened my appreciation and gratitude for my current situation in life. The challenges I’ve faced often stem from tenants compromising their integrity, failing to uphold their end of the agreement, or encountering personal issues that affect their performance in the workplace.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a salon owner, I wear many hats to ensure the smooth operation of my business. I see myself as a helping hand, assisting tenants with their move-in process by utilizing my knowledge and resources. I act as a property manager when it comes to finding the right contractor to address building issues. I even play the role of an unlicensed therapist when tenants need to vent, and I step in as a business coach to motivate everyone to stay focused on building their brand and business. I enjoy organizing networking events twice a year for both locations to come together. I believe that my commitment to fostering the growth of the C.O.E. family truly sets my salon suites apart from the rest.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Outside of my faith, I must pay tribute to my mother. She has significantly influenced many of the choices I’ve made throughout my life. In the early 2000s, she transitioned from running her salon to becoming an educator in the beauty industry. I chose to honor her legacy by using her salon’s name to continue her journey. Without her, as well as the unwavering support from my son and stepfather, there would be no C.O.E Salon Suites. I am incredibly thankful for my family, friends, and clients who have cheered me on and admired my leadership over the years. Their support means the world to me.
