Cortez Bass shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Cortez, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes definitely, Lately i have been working 1 on 1 with upcoming entrepreneurs and business owners and they all have asked the same question “How do we fund our business? so with that being said i have partnered up with a major platform where we offer different kinds of start up business funding packages and also help with building Personal & or Business Credit so recently i have been super proud that i can also offer a platform where our entrepreneurs and business owners can get the help in funding and also learn more about Financial Literacy within!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello I’m Cortez Bass Born and Raised in Durham, NC, I’ve held an Class A CDL for about 10 years now, I’m an published author of to 2 great books “Learning the Trucking Industry” & “The Switch up” Lately I have been working heavy on building Logistics company’s in the most Profitable way from learning Financial to How to Communicate with drivers and Brokers, The interesting thing that keeps me going on a daily is knowing that I’m apart of 1 of most important thing that moves America and its love seeing the companies like O MY I never knew why and how I was not making any profit through out my company until I started showing more details in numbers! I stand mainly on using my craft to help others succeed in the industry! I also teach Business owners and entrepreneurs how to capitalize on Using business credit to leverage their personal lifestyle!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think mostly the bond between people breaks when someone looks at the other as competition and if they have been close for so many years it turns into a Race more so then Building together! When you are close to someone and you both are chasing a dream of elevation you have to become business partners more then anything because there will be great days and then there will be bad days for sure! Also to Restore the bond you have to sit down with each other or others and come together with a major business plan and also a number plan so then you all will always look at growth more and not emotions!
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Ive had a couple of things I have changed my mind about but this one thing helped me a lot, That was changing my surroundings meaning environment, family, friends, etc. The reason was for me that I had to change that was because I felt focused at certain times and certain times I didn’t in certain environments so I had to realize this was my distraction and I had to reevaluate the situations multiply of times, This change did not not come easy especially because this is when I fell hard so the first thing I was thinking was reach out to family friends and I had noticed when I was alone more I came up with a lot of great ideas and focus was so sharp so yes that was my major change when I fell hard! Elevations come with isolation
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie I hear on a daily in the Trucking industry is that its no money in trucking rates suck and if you get into trucking you will go broke after 1st year of ownership! Well I’m here to tell you this if you speak negative you will get negative results so I always train my students and companies to just run the freight lanes and stay in peaceful situations when you are dealing with brokers and customer because once you build an relationship with them you become loyal and Freight is the last thing you will worry about! Also Freight is determined off of numbers & inventory and also if consumers are ordering things! So the areas you run matters and also the availability of product!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes Definitely! The reason why is because I am very passionate about my purpose that I’m chasing and if I never got praised for it, I would still go 120% every time because this is something that was built inside of me for sure & Also to see the facing on some of my students is so priceless it tells me everything for sure because I take most people from not knowing to knowing how to run a successful logistics business in just a couple of weeks!
