An Inspired Chat with Anthony Scalabrino of Raleigh

We recently had the chance to connect with Anthony Scalabrino and have shared our conversation below.

Anthony , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I absolutely love waking up slow. I set my alarm for 0715 and then hitting snooze a few times. I then cuddle with my BFFL, Jemma dog, a chocolate lab who is full of energy and loves others unconditionally like many dogs do.

Ever since deciding to pursue the amaretto full time in June of 2025, I’ve been grinding even harder than before. My mornings are consumed with admin work which leads to boots on the ground in person sales calls in the evening. I am fueled by many cups of coffee and occasional breaks to walk with Jemma dog.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Ever since I was 7 years old I knew I wanted to be a military pilot. I achieved that goal in 2011 when I put on my gold Navy wings and ultimately became an instructor pilot before resigning in 2019. I’ve worked as a Sales Engineer in tech since departing the Navy, until recently when I decided to take the leap and pursue Oak City Amaretto as my career full time.

Oak City Amaretto is authentic to its Sicilian roots and my Grandmother Scalabrino’s recipe. We only source natural ingredients which elevates our taste above the competition. We established our roots in North Carolina and expanded into Wisconsin in 2025. We differentiate ourselves by consistently participating and donating in/to the communities which we operate. We are present and interact with everyone as if they are family.

We are working on expansion into other states to ensure more people can enjoy our delicious product.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
No one particular event shaped who I am today. The consistent grind and pressure to perform when followed by many layoffs convinced me the world is more than chasing the next pay raise or prestigious title.

Ive been blessed to afford international vacations, and while they have been amazing, that excitement quickly dissipated when returning back to work after a few weeks. The only thing that has truly sustained me are my friends, family, and community. I constantly have to remind myself about that fact.

Life is too short. I’ve always loved others unconditionally and wanted to give more than I had, however, I am more in tune with taking action on those feelings.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Always, however, I have NEVER given up. I always press on and rebound immediately after a set back. Example: after my latest layoff, I was on the streets selling amaretto that very next day. I have never accepted complete failure and never will. We are certainly defined by our challenges and struggles but most importantly the character we exhibit during and after those trials.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
100% I have always worn my emotions on my sleeves. I think it’s why I have always had a hard time conforming to the environments I am in. I love “coloring outside the lines”. I’m surprised I lasted 10 years in the Navy because as my wife will tell you, I don’t like being told what to do. I have a huge heart and bleed for those in need and trouble.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop worrying about the frivolous things in life and focus on making even more experience instead of accumulating things (not that I excessively do that today).

I would rack up a S&$& ton of debt and live that YOLO life lol
