Alexis Holmes’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Alexis Holmes. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is all about being intentional and setting myself up for a productive and positive mindset. I like to start my mornings with something uplifting, either reading a few pages of a good book or listening to a podcast, while enjoying my daily greens or my current obsession, a homemade strawberry matcha (thanks to my fancy new Amazon equipment). Depending on the day, I’ll take my dog for a walk around the neighborhood before getting ready and heading either into the office or up to my home office.

Once I’m at my desk, I review my ‘daily intentions list,’ which I create the night before. This helps me stay focused on what’s most important, while also giving me the peace of mind to know what can be moved to the next day if needed. My mornings are usually dedicated to emails, client communications, and phone calls. Around lunchtime, depending on the day, I may also be training new agent hires or collaborating on team projects and tasks, which keeps me connected and engaged with my colleagues. After that, I shift into my time-blocked activities, including lead generation, follow-ups, prepping for open houses, social media content, and planning for the week ahead, including any closings, inspections, or networking events.

In the afternoons, I leave space for showings and client appointments. Sticking to my time blocks is key as it allows me to get the important work done while also protecting time for my personal life, whether that’s going to the gym, running errands, enjoying a date night, or spending time with family. I’ve learned that when I put myself first and stay intentional, both my business and my personal life thrive.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alexis Holmes and I’m a proud Raleigh-Durham native with over eight and a half years in the real estate industry, starting in mortgages, moving into property management and brokerage, and now serving as both a full-time real estate agent – Realtor, Closed By Holmes, and Director of Closing Experience with Ashley Wilson Realty Group. I work with buyers, sellers, and investors across the Triangle and surrounding areas, including first-time homebuyers, veterans, second-home clients, and 55-plus clients.

I’m passionate about serving my local community and ‘making real estate dreams come true’ one transaction at a time. My mission is to live a life by design, guided by faith, grounded in family, and built on financial education and stability so I can give freely and help create a secure, prosperous future for generations to come.

As a buyer and listing specialist, I’m dedicated to making the real estate process smooth and enjoyable, whether I’m helping someone buy their first home, grow their investment portfolio, or find the perfect retirement property. My local knowledge, industry experience, and commitment to client success are at the heart of my brand and everything I do.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed anything was possible and that I could be anything I wanted to be, because that’s what my parents instilled in me. Yet, some of the careers I dreamed about like textile engineering or being a business owner—weren’t industries where I often saw people who looked like me.

Now, as an adult, I’ve seen the world evolve. More women, including African-American women, are stepping into spaces and leadership roles where they’ve never been represented before. I’ve learned there is no ceiling on what you can achieve and no single path you have to follow. What you do now may or may not be your calling or purpose, and that’s okay; it can change from age 25 to 30 to 40 and beyond. Your past doesn’t define your future; it shapes and equips you for the blessings and opportunities ahead.

It’s never too late to grow, pivot, and become the best version of yourself. The goal is to find fulfillment, live with purpose, and continue becoming the person you were meant to be.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me resilience and clarity in a way success never could.
For me, it wasn’t just hardship in the physical sense. It was those seasons where I questioned if I was worthy and deserving, if I was even on the right path, or if my purpose was something entirely different. That uncertainty can feel heavier than failure itself. But walking through it forced me to dig deep, rediscover my “why,” and strengthen my belief in myself.

In real estate, there are days when deals fall apart, clients change direction, or the market shifts overnight. Those moments can shake your confidence, but my experiences with doubt taught me not to define myself by a single outcome (always remembering) it is ok to have a bad hour but that does not cause a bad day or a bad life). Instead, I focus on the bigger picture, serving people, building relationships, and knowing that persistence always pays off.

Success can affirm your abilities, but suffering shapes your character. It gave me the patience, empathy, and grit to not just survive challenges, but to grow through them in life and in my business.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say what matters most to me is family and helping others succeed. I’m resourceful and love being an educator at heart because I believe everyone deserves an opportunity to win and to grow into the best version of themselves. I ensure no one goes without, and I would literally give the shirt off my back to help someone in need.

I thrive on experiencing life, traveling, embracing new cultures, and sharing those moments with my loved ones. I’m deeply committed to giving back to my local community, both in tangible ways and through sharing knowledge. I’m passionate about encouraging people to break generational curses and offering “free game” to anyone I meet.

Above all, I am a caring, faith-driven, and strong God fearing woman who loves people and finds fulfillment in seeing others grow, learn, and reach their goals.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do. My name, Alexis, comes from Greek origin and means “to help” and “to defend,” and that truly defines who I am. I have always been willing to help and lend a hand in every aspect of my personal and professional life.

As a Realtor, I get to live out that purpose daily by helping people achieve their dreams of homeownership, build generational wealth, and see what’s possible for them no matter their background. I train other agents, teach my community about all things real estate, and make it a priority to give back in meaningful ways. For me, this is more than a career, it is a calling to empower others with knowledge and opportunity.

I do not take any day for granted. Each day, I focus on becoming a better version of myself, both for my current self and for the goals of my future self, so I can continue serving at the highest level.
