Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kayla Parker of Rocky Mount

We recently had the chance to connect with Kayla Parker and have shared our conversation below.

Kayla, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I love to exercise, whenever I find the time to do so, I do it! Not only is it stimulating for me, but it transitions me into a flow state. After engaging in a rigorous 20 min to an hour workout, I am more focused than ever and begin to start on new works.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Yes! My name is Kayla Parker; I am the CEO and founder of my company Kay Productions LLC. Here, we focus on marketing and branding. We have a wide range of services such as content marketing and creation, audio production, as well as marketing analytics and much more.
In the beginning, we were just focused on audio production, however I wanted my company to represent something much more, Branding. As I navigated through social media promoting my socials KBCreatives, I realized that I had the opportunity to expand on something more.
Being able to offer services at an affordable rate, around the world is not only beneficial to the company but anyone who has goals and would like to take their business or brand to the next level!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a curious and fearless kid. I loved creating stories out of nothing, asking a million questions, and I wasn’t afraid to try things just because they interested me. Over time, I learned that people valued results more than questions, and that sometimes my curiosity was seen as annoying or unwanted. I started shrinking certain parts of myself to fit into roles I thought I had to play. Now I try to protect that part of myself. I’ve learned that curiosity, creativity, and kindness aren’t weaknesses — they’re my strengths, and they’re the reason I can bring fresh ideas and energy into any space I’m in.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me that without trials and tribulations there will never be triumph. Success can make you proud but suffering builds character and endurance. As Romans 5:3-4 says, ‘We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.’ That hope is something success alone could never give me.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is as close as possible to my authentic self. On my socials, I share my curious and adventurous nature, which I believe is one of my best qualities. Whether in public or in private, I strive to show the same kindness and empathy toward others — because who I am when no one is watching should match who I am when everyone is.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I am doing what I was born to do. In 12th grade, I wrote a paper on reducing prison recidivism through mental health rehabilitation programs. No one told me which injustice to fight for — that conviction came from within. Today, by building my business and brand, I’m working toward creating prevention programs for youth that will shape a stronger future and inspire the next generation of leaders.
