Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Ibadan Mack of Raleigh

We recently had the chance to connect with Ibadan Mack and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ibadan , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I start my day with prayer. My conversations with God mean everything to me. Without direction or guidance from the author and finisher of my faith, my day would be lost, I then read my bible as well as my monthly read (book) in order to gain not only Kingdom knowledge, because as the Senior Pastor of a new ministry it is important that we stay sharp and knowledgeable of the things of God, but also insight into other areas of either ministry or other world issues such as finance or behavioral studies that could better help me as a leader in ministry as well as in the community. After my time with God, I then focus on the business of picking out which scriptures will be used for the Faith Based Apparel that will be released online from our company which is Purpose Apparel Company.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ibadan Mack. I am the Senior Pastor of 4 His Purpose Ministries International and the CEO of Purpose Apparel Company. Together, with my wife, Pastor Tara Melvin-Mack of 4 His Purpose Ministries International who is also the COO of Purpose Apparel Company, our desire is to spread the word of Christ and to fulfill the commission through the word of God as well the brand he has enabled us to establish. Purpose Apparel Company is unique because we do what no one else does. We are the company where verses become visuals and fashion carries the flame. We carefully listen to the Holy Spirit in crafting each design and bringing the word to life with designs that are empowering, impactful, well crafted and appealing to every age, and ethnicity across the globe for at Purpose Apparel, our desire is to spread the word through the gift of artistic expression, one design at time.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before I became a Pastor and an Entrepreneur, I was someone trying to fit the mold of everyday life (hence the lower case letters) I always knew that God had more for me to accomplish but my mistake was sharing my vision with people who had settled for the mundane and mediocre and told me to do the same. For many years, I bounced around from job to job, never satisfied with the restrictions and confines of a traditional 9 to 5 and someone placing a worth on your work. My vision was worth far more than what they could pay and I knew that I had to step out on faith and become who God had always designed for me to be and that was a visionary that had something to offer the world.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain when I saw that it was impacting my relationships with those I loved as well as hurting the potential I had to build a future in ministry and in business. I heard a saying a few years ago from a prominent leader in the area in ministry that you can lead while bleeding. That means you can lead others while healing from traumatic life experiences. Well I’m here to tell you that not everyone has the grace to handle that responsibility because I dealt with a leader that bled all over me and others and the stain of that almost caused me to. push away some of the most important people in my life. I had to go on a three year journey of healing and learn how to trust God and people as well as myself again. I had to make a promise to myself that the shortcomings of my predecessors would not be mine and that I would be the person that I needed all those years ago.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The social media and public version will always match. So many times the person you encounter is very different from the online persona portrayed because they are simply attempting to sell you a product. We are seeking to change lives and mindsets and are servants of Christ. We understand that being anything other than genuine can be detrimental to people in our profession.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand that the community that you serve is all you need in order to position you for sustainable success “if” you continue to treat them with the dignity and respect they are due once they have helped you to attain your position of prominence. I went to a conference in November 2024 where a woman needed money for her rent and car and the speaker petitioned every woman in the conference room to give just 20 dollars a piece in order to meet the needs of this woman. Now in the room there were over 500 women. You do the math. At the end of that session, the woman’s needs were met. This is proof that as a community, “if” we make a conscious decision to come together, nothing is beyond our reach. We can fund any business as well as meet any need. Our issue is us. We have to get past measuring the success of others and seeking to keep others in a state of mediocrity, for when we do that, we all suffer.
