angelica betancourt of raleigh on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with angelica betancourt and have shared our conversation below.

angelica , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
mi familia,mis hijos mi madre

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Angélica Betancourt, and I am the founder of Qué Más Pues Raleigh, a Colombian fast-food brand that brings the authentic flavors of our culture through dishes like salchipapas, desgranados, and more.

This project was born from a personal need, at a time when it seemed almost impossible, but it has become my purpose and motivation. As a Hispanic woman building a business in a country that is not my own, the journey hasn’t been easy. Yet, those challenges are what inspire me to keep going and to show others that sí se puede—yes, it is possible.

What makes Qué Más Pues unique is not only the quality and flavor of our food, but also that every plate is made with the passion, courage, and determination that define us as Hispanics. More than food, it’s a piece of home and a reminder of our roots.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I decided to move forward with my dream of creating Qué Más Pues Raleigh. At that moment, everything around me seemed uncertain and even impossible, but taking that first step—despite fear and doubt—made me realize the strength I carry within.

As a Hispanic woman in a country that is not my own, turning an idea born out of necessity into a real business gave me the confidence to believe in myself and to understand that true power comes from resilience, courage, and faith. That moment changed everything for me—it was the beginning of walking with purpose.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there were moments when I almost gave up. Starting a business in a new country, far from my comfort zone, came with many challenges—financial struggles, doubts, and even fear of failing. But every time I thought about quitting, I remembered why I started: to create something meaningful, to honor my roots, and to show my children and community that perseverance opens doors. Those difficult moments became my fuel, and today I can say they made me stronger.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A belief I’m deeply committed to is that with hard work, resilience, and faith, dreams can become reality no matter how long it takes. My project, Qué Más Pues Raleigh, is proof of that. It’s not just about food, but about creating a space that celebrates Colombian flavors and Hispanic culture in a country that has become my second home. I am committed to growing this dream step by step, inspiring others along the way, and showing that perseverance always pays off.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, I believe my customers would miss more than just the flavors. They would miss the love, the charisma, and the heart that goes into every order prepared in our hidden kitchen. Qué Más Pues Raleigh is not just about delivering salchipapas or desgranados t’s about delivering a piece of Colombia, a taste of home, and a reminder that even far away, our culture and roots are alive. What they would truly miss is the warmth and authenticity that arrive with every bite.
