Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Devon Mabry of Raleigh

Devon Mabry shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Devon, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Going to the gym, reading, taking walks with my dogs enjoying nature and spending time with family

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Devon, and I wear a couple of different hats. I own a handyman business where I get to put my skills to work helping people with projects big and small, and I also model here and there. On top of that, I’ve always had a deep love for the art of photography it’s one of the ways I express creativity and perspective.

I recently moved from Baltimore to Raleigh, NC, to give myself the chance to start fresh and build a better life. That move was a big step for me, but it’s brought nothing but positive changes. I’m passionate about animals, I’m spiritual, and I’ve been through my share of real-life challenges but those experiences have only motivated me to keep growing and moving forward.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding my handyman business, pursuing creative opportunities in modeling and photography, and continuing to build a life rooted in purpose and balance. Life is good, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
That’s deep! A moment that really shaped how I see the world was going through some tough real-life situations that tested me in every way. At the time, it felt heavy, but looking back, those struggles pushed me to grow, move differently, and appreciate life more. It taught me that nothing is promised, but change is always possible if you’re willing to step forward in faith. That’s actually part of why I moved from Baltimore to Raleigh. I wanted to create a better version of myself, and now I see challenges as opportunities instead of roadblocks.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Trust your instincts! It’ll never guide you the wrong way. That gut feeling you get when it comes to hard decision making, go for what you feel is right. Go with your gut! Don’t keep guessing about it and have mental battles. Your spirit already gave you a signal on which direction to take

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe that everything in life happens for a reason, even if we don’t see it in the moment. The struggles, the moves, the people we meet, it all connects in ways we can’t always explain. I can’t prove it, but I feel like the universe (or God) places things in our path to guide us where we’re supposed to be.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I only had 10 years left, I’d stop spending time on things that don’t matter worrying about other people’s opinions, holding onto grudges, or stressing over things I can’t control. I’d focus on experiences that bring joy, connecting with the people I love, and pursuing the things that make me feel alive. Every moment would count, and I’d make sure to live in a way that leaves no regrets.
