An Inspired Chat with Nicholas Vernon

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Nicholas Vernon. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Nicholas, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Who are you learning from right now?
I’m learning and experiencing first hand that God’s timing is perfect. He has always been the one guiding my steps, but I’ve been trying to take them without thinking of when I should.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
2024 Carolina Country Music Awards “Male Artist of the Year,” Nicholas Vernon is a rising country artist rooted in the red clay of North Carolina. A 4th generation farmer from just outside Fayetteville, Nicholas blends the timeless grit of traditional country with soulful, modern melodies that have made him a standout in the Southeastern music scene.
He’s been spotlighted on 94.7 QDR’s Homegrown Country, B93.9’s Carolina Artist Spotlight, and 98.5 Big Dawg Radio, steadily building a loyal grassroots following across the region. His high-energy performances have landed him opening slots for acts like Zach Top, Craig Campbell, Sawyer Brown, Drew Baldridge, Josh Ross, and Anne Wilson, and taken him to major local stages including the NC State Fair, GotToBeNC Festival, Fayetteville Dogwood Festival, and Fayetteville After 5.
With his debut full-length album on the horizon, Nicholas is carving out his space in country music… authentic, hardworking, and impossible to ignore.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My marriage has changed my life. The way I’ve grown closer to my wife and continued to process life together has given me a clearer understanding of where I’ve been and where I want to be. The feeling of who I thought I was has been completely reshaped by a view of who I am. My wife is the champion of this understanding and shift of life.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Your gut instincts are right. Continue to be kind to others, but understand that the world will not be kind to you. God will provide a path through the valleys, but there are still valleys to go through. Your instincts are guided by wisdom, wisdom is guided by God. The gift of discernment is overlooked by many and desired by few, but it is one of the strongest gifts from the Holy Spirit.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Fads are fast and are generally consumed by most without issue. Foundational shifts cause tension, stress, discussions, and even sometimes conflict. I’m not saying that fads or foundational shifts are good or bad. Both have had their places in society, but I think the real conversation is that people need to be able to identify which is which. Then they can make a thoughtful decision on whether or not they should or would be on board with it. Blindly going along with either is inauthentic.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
It often feels like that’s the case right now. There are shows that I play and sometimes fill the role of background noise. I’ve won the Male Artist of the Year award in Carolina Country Music Association and just won the award for Rising Male Star in the International Singer-Songwriter Association awards. Even though my career has had tremendous milestones, there are more times than not where I’ll be playing songs for people who don’t care at all. This is part of the reason I wrote and released my song “Worth A Dime”.
