We’re looking forward to introducing you to Katie Mabe. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Katie, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
When I’m creating, I completely lose track of time. Pouring resin or wax, arranging flowers, or experimenting with new designs feels almost meditative— but it’s also where I find myself again. The process allows me to reconnect with who I am, slow down, and pour pieces of my story into the art I’m making. It’s both grounding and freeing at the same time.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Katie, the creator of Rose of Venus Co. My brand is all about renewal and creativity—whether it’s upcycling thrifted finds, like giving old or used items a fresh life, or creating completely new, one-of-a-kind resin and furniture pieces. What makes Rose of Venus Co. special is the mix of sustainability and artistry: every item has its own story, either transformed from something old or imagined into something entirely new. I love the process of taking what’s overlooked and turning it into something meaningful, beautiful, and unique. I started this journey during a time when I felt lost and unsure of my path. In 2020, after leaving my job during COVID, I discovered resin art and made my first piece as a gift for my mom. That small project sparked what would become my first business. The name Rose of Venus Co. comes from my love of astrology—the path Venus makes around Earth creates a rose-shaped pattern—and it also honors my grandma, whose favorite flower was a rose. This shop has become a way for me to express myself, connect with others, and carry on a family tradition of creativity. Having my mom by my side makes it even more meaningful, and I know we’re making my grandma proud with every piece we create.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
When I started Rose of Venus Co. at 20, I was just beginning to explore resin and crafting, figuring out who I was and what I wanted to create. Now at 25, my work and vision have grown with me. The part of me that I’ve released is the need to make ‘just anything’ to sell. My focus now is on one-of-a-kind pieces, often made from items that were once landfill bound, that carry meaning and allow people to see a part of me through my art. Rebranding Rose of Venus has been about letting go of old expectations and pivoting into a more personal, intentional direction—one that anyone, at any age, can connect with and enjoy.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most has been a mix of self-doubt, worry about making the wrong decisions, and the fear of being judged by others. I’ve also struggled with the fear that I wouldn’t succeed and that my past mistakes would define me. For a long time, these fears kept me from fully exploring my creativity and pursuing what I truly wanted. Over time, I’ve learned that embracing my journey, trusting myself, and taking risks—even when it’s uncomfortable—allows me to grow, create work that reflects who I am, and move forward without being held hostage by my past.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to creating meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces through Rose of Venus Co., no matter how long it takes. My goal is to transform overlooked or discarded items into art that tells a story, sparks emotion, and connects with people. I believe in the power of creativity and intention, and I’m dedicated to growing my brand in a way that stays true to that vision, even if it takes years to fully unfold.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I’m creating. Whether I’m transforming an old piece into something new or experimenting with resin and art, time seems to disappear. It’s in those moments that I can fully express myself, slow down, and connect with my own thoughts and creativity. Making art is my way of finding stillness and balance, and it’s when I feel most like myself. And I think I lost that for a while and didn’t feel that peace for a bit.
