Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Taylor Bissette

We recently had the chance to connect with Taylor Bissette and have shared our conversation below.

Taylor , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’m chasing what we call in the country music world a “neon rainbow”. Playing at every Honkytonk bar and dive that we can so we can make this happen and be in front of 10, 100, or 1,000 people that need some healing. That’s what it’s all about. The journey we go on to write this songs can heal us sometimes, so we let everybody in on that. You never know who needs to hear what you have to say. If I stopped doing this, I’d still be doing this.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Taylor Bissette, and I am a singer/songwriter originally from Wilson, NC. I travel all around the state to places like Raleigh, Greenville, and Wilmington to play some country music. All I’d like the readers to know about me is that I’m a genuine nerd for songwriting, comics, and country music. I dip my hands into a few other things like gaming and hunting, but I’m at my best when I’m on a stage somewhere.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
A lot of things can break the bonds between people. Lying is a big one. Acting selfishly is at the top of this list too. I could go on about this, but I believe that if everyone brought the teachings of God into a lot of their relationships, they would see their life and connections improve drastically. There isn’t anything that God can’t do.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Listening to music. It has always helped me. When I couldn’t figure out the words to say or when I felt lost, country music always served as a shining star for me. It’s been a lighthouse. At times when I couldn’t explain how I felt, I found that a song could. And that’s one reason as to why I write. You never know who needs to hear what you have to say.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Very much so. You guys can find me wearing a camo, Marvel, Luke Combs, or a Dale Jr shirt 90% of the time you see me. I don’t shy away from who I am, there’s no need to. I don’t pretend to be something I’m not. Most times I play on stage in boots, but sometimes I’m in a pair of Nikes. And I’m always wearing a hat. What you see is what you get.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
My story is my songs. That’s my legacy. That’s something that I’ll leave behind and hopefully people will come back to them long after I’m gone. To remember me, to remember a moment. In a way, I’ll always be there.
