We’re looking forward to introducing you to Hannah Whitt. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My youngest two children’s birthdays are only two days apart, so this year we decided to throw them a joint birthday party on the day in between. Planning it has been such a fun and creative outlet for me—it’s superhero and princess themed, and I’ve loved pulling all the little details together to make it special for them. Watching their excitement build as we get closer to the big day has brought me so much joy.
We’re a family that loves any reason to celebrate, whether it’s the first day of school, birthdays, holidays, or even just making a weeknight dinner feel special. For me, joy comes from creating those memories and finding little ways to make life fun. It’s been a sweet reminder that happiness often comes in the everyday moments if we take the time to notice and embrace them.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Hannah Whitt, a wedding and family photographer based in North Carolina by way of Cornwall, England. What started as a hobby turned into a career I love—capturing genuine, joy-filled moments without the stiff posing. My approach is all about keeping things relaxed and real, so couples and families feel like themselves in front of the camera. These days I’m expanding from weddings into family and lifestyle photography, and I love being invited back to document each new chapter of my clients’ stories.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is the one I have with my husband, Matt. From the very beginning, he has believed in me even when I doubted myself. He’s the one who first encouraged me to pick up a camera and even surprised me with my first pro camera. Over the years he’s reminded me again and again that I am the only limit to what I can achieve. His confidence and steady support have pushed me to take chances I might have talked myself out of, and because of that, I’ve grown not just as a photographer but as a person. He’s shown me that the biggest obstacles are often the ones we put in our own way, and that with faith, hard work, and a little courage, I’m capable of more than I imagined.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most is feeling unprepared or unqualified. I used to think I needed everything perfectly figured out before I could start, but the truth is you learn so much faster and more effectively by just jumping in. Every time I’ve pushed past that hesitation and thrown myself into something new, I’ve gained confidence and skills I never would have picked up from waiting on the sidelines.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A belief I’m deeply committed to is that the most beautiful photographs come from real moments, not staged ones. Early on, we experimented with styled shoots, but I quickly realized they could never capture the emotion, chaos, and authenticity of a real wedding day or family session. That rawness—the nervous laughter, the teary hugs, the imperfect, unplanned moments—is where the magic truly lives. For that reason, we’ve made it a core value of Whitt Photography and Film to only showcase genuine client work in our portfolio. It may take longer to build that body of work, but I believe it’s worth it, because authenticity will always outshine perfection.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I don’t think it’s about one specific story—I hope it’s the thread people notice in all of them. I’m not a nonchalant person; I care deeply, and I try to bring that into every part of my life. With my family, my clients, and my work, I hope what shines through is that I always showed up fully. That doesn’t mean being overbearing or extravagant—it’s about paying attention to each moment and showing up in the best way I can. If people remember me as someone who truly cared and made them feel seen, that would mean everything.
