Zoe Patchin shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Zoe, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I decorated my entire house for fall and I am OBSESSED with it! It’s super cozy (I filmed it all so it’s on my youtube channel) and I’m officially ready for fall!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Zoë, I’m 25, got married roughly a year and a half ago to my high school sweetheart (gross ik), and I’m a content creator! I do actually work in marketing as well, but my dream job would be to do content/social media for myself full time. In other words, yes I’m a wannabe influencer lol.
With my content, I am technically in the lifestyle niche across platforms (IG, TikTok, and YouTube), but more specifically, I do videos about my general life, decor videos, fashion stuff, and really anything else in between. I’m local to the Raleigh area, so I also dabble in promoting any small business around the triangle!
I started my youtube channel in 2020, which is what prompted the whole content creator thing. I had wanted to start it since middle school but was always too afraid. But when I went through a hair transition journey in college and then covid hit, I finally decided to hit record and talk about my natural hair journey (that was my first video).
I’ve had IG since i was 11, but never really took it seriously until 2020.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to think that I was prettier with straight hair lol. It’s not unique and is very common (unfortunately), but I finally like my natural curls more and this is a big deal for me and for really any curly girl out there (they get it).
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Mmmm maybe the fear of failure?? I don’t really care about people liking me, but at the same time, I do want to be successful at this influencer thing, so I suppose that means I want people to like me? I just want to be a friend to people through my content and I’m probably afraid that I’ll fail at that
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Pretty much, yeah! I feel like I try to show as much personality online as I can because that’s what’s REAL. I don’t want to be just another influencer girly; I want to be someone that actually shows the real stuff and my real personality and products that I actually believe in
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I think so, but it’d be way harder. I’ve continued with social media even through times where it felt like it wasn’t resonating with anyone or like no one cared, so yeah I think I could give it my best, but probably not for very long
