Reginald Spencer shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Reginald, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes, I would hire me. I would hire me because I’m an extremely hard worker. I aim to provide the best output of information, the optimal service experience, and ultimately present the best product available. I’m the type of individual that will always put their best foot forward.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Reginald “Spence” or “Unk” Spencer. I’m a 23 year army veteran set to retiree in June, 2026 and as a civilian I’m an Accounting manager at a prestigious law firm. My brand is “GUAP – Get Up And Prosper.” I envisioned this brand to embody some of the same attributes that veterans have. No excuses! Yes there are obstacles. Yes, you will encounter numerous things that will throw you off track. However, you stay the course, you remain focused, and you do what needs to be done to achieve your goal. It’s a tough love type of motivation. Excuses do nothing but hinder you. Get Up And Prosper. Persevere through it all. You’ll love, respect, and cherish the outcome that much more.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mother. There’s a saying that goes, “mama knows.” Yes she did. There were numerous times where I’ve doubted myself. However, my mother gave me the courage, and spoke life into me because she knew the son she raised. She knew that she poured into a hard working, resilient individual. .
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. I don’t speak on it often. Actually, not at all. In 2016 I was on the verge of committing suicide. Obviously, I didn’t go through with it. It was a very troubling time, where I really thought escaping it all was the answer. It wasn’t. I faced the adversity, got through and was able to overcome it.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Tobe Nwigwe. He has a lot of power being an influential rapper. However, his character is what I most admire. The admiration and respect that he has for his wife, his family, is what really stands out to me. All that he does is centered around family. I absolutely love that.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Not putting my all into my brand. I’m not doing this to get rich. I’m doing this to touch as many people as possible. To introduce the mindset of persevering through any and everything. Me not chasing this dream, and goal is failure. Failing is something I’m not willing to do.
