An Inspired Chat with Dr. Cathy Sauls of Neighborhood

Dr. Cathy Sauls shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Cathy, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
Within my community, a significant number of families lack the resources to fulfill their children’s basic needs. For the past three years, I have diligently solicited donations to address the pressing needs of infants and young children. If I stopped raising donations for the cause, many children would go without the necessary assistance.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello,

My name is Dr. Cathy Sauls. I am the founder and Executive Director of Solutions by Lynn, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization serving Wake County, North Carolina. Since 2000, we have provided support to numerous families with children in elementary school through the distribution of new athletic shoes, school supplies, replacement eyeglasses, winter wear, and tutoring services.

For pregnant and parenting teenage mothers, we offer essential baby supplies and abstinence counseling.

For children in foster care, we provide Easter outfits. Additionally, we provide entertainment items for children undergoing dialysis treatment.

We teach a Precious Me Curriculum, which emphasizes behavior and moral principles, to inner-city children.

What distinguishes Solutions by Lynn is its ability to address the challenges faced by parents in providing essential needs for their children that may exceed their financial means. When basic necessities like food and shelter become the primary concerns in families, other essential items may be neglected.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Upon graduating from college, I secured employment with the Department of Social Services. During my tenure, I had the opportunity to see firsthand the stark realities of poverty. This work experience molded my character and reinforced my career trajectory.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
My personal struggles have instilled in me the understanding that adversity is not an enduring condition. Adversity is always followed by periods of improved circumstances.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
My public persona accurately reflects my true nature, characterized by transparency.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
It does not matter what people say about me when I am gone. What truly matters is what Jesus says about my life and the contributions I made to His creation.
