Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jonathon Leach of Raleigh, NC

Jonathon Leach shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Jonathon, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think the most misunderstood thing about my business is that flying a drone is easy. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost crashed my drone or had to double check a site to make sure that I am capable of flying. It’s also misunderstood that you don’t need a drone license to fly commercially. That is one of my reasons for getting my part 107 license is so that I am able to make money flying my drone.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Jonathon Leach and I am a Drone Pilot from Raleigh NC. I specialize in scenic drone shots that Capture aerial views in a different space. My brand is Shots By Cash Productions and what makes my brand unique is that I cater to small businesses that need aerial views of their property, business or products. I have been a drone pilot officially for over a year and I have been flying drones for over 3 years. I started off as a photographer, then I ventured into videography. I really wanted to separate myself from others so I decided to go to Drone Pilot school through UAV Coach. After successfully passing my 107 I began to reach out to brands, realtors and commercial realtors to purse a career in landscape photography. Recently, I have been tasked with starting a drone program for all ages called “Flight Club”, and in this program I will teach young teens and adults all about the drone industry and how to prepare for changes coming in the industry as well.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I think the first time I really felt powerful was when I completed my first deployment in Iraq. I spent about 12 years in the military and i deployed twice to Iraq. The first time was really interesting and intense. I was proud that I was able to make it back alive in one peace.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I think the fear of failing. As a kid I wanted to play basketball and I remember not making the team in high school I was devastated. However, life show me you can not be afraid to fail and if you love something go for it! Even if it doesn’t work out, atleast you put forth an effort. Not trying is actually failing.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Of course! I can be nothing but my authentic self and I think that can be an entrepreneurial asset because being your true self is important.. Alot of people ask why am I always smiling? I am truly happy with where I am at this point in life. Who I am in public is a display of the character I built over the years.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most peace when I am doing nature aerial photography or some type of photography that doesn’t involve a list or a requirement. It’s a free feeling to hover the skies and look at the beautiful nature of Gods Green earth. I think my favorite type of scenery is water. I love the mountains but any type of water lake, beach, river I think those views are breathtaking.
