Mikayla Carroll of Fayetteville on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Mikayla Carroll shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Mikayla, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What battle are you avoiding?
I think the battle I’m avoiding is the one that forces me to face what’s really going on inside of me. Deep down, I know there’s a truth I’ve been sidestepping—something God has been nudging me to confront, whether it’s a calling I’ve been hesitant to step into, a wound I’ve been afraid to reopen, or a conversation I’ve been avoiding because I fear the outcome. It’s easier to stay busy, distract myself, or convince myself the timing isn’t right than to deal with the discomfort of change. But I also know that the longer I run from it, the heavier it feels, and just like Jonah, I won’t find true peace until I stop running and face it head-on.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mikayla Lanae, and I’m a content creator, Intensive In-Home Team Lead, and ministry leader who is passionate about inspiring and uplifting others through faith, beauty, and everyday life. My brand blends authenticity with creativity—I share haircare, skincare, and lifestyle content that feels relatable, uplifting, and visually engaging, while also using my platform to speak life into people’s spiritual and personal journeys. What makes my work unique is that I’m not just showing products or trends—I’m sharing stories, experiences, and encouragement rooted in my own walk with God and my desire to see others live confidently in their purpose. Right now, I’m expanding my reach as a full-time influencer while creating more faith-based and motivational content that connects with people of all ages, from the youth in my church to women navigating life’s challenges with grace and confidence.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a curious, free-spirited girl who loved deeply, dreamed boldly, and believed anything was possible. I moved at my own rhythm, laughed without holding back, and saw the world through eyes unclouded by comparison or doubt. I didn’t measure my worth by accomplishments, titles, or how well I fit into someone else’s expectations—I was simply me, fully and unapologetically. Somewhere along the way, life’s noise and pressures tried to reshape me, but deep down, that pure version of me is still here, waiting to take up space again.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes—there was a time I almost gave up. I remember feeling completely drained, like I was pouring into everything and everyone but had nothing left for myself. The weight of expectations, disappointments, and silent battles made me question if my efforts even mattered. I felt unseen, unheard, and unnoticed, even while showing up for others with a smile. But in that low place, God reminded me that my story wasn’t over. Through prayer, scripture, and the support of a few people who truly cared, I realized that the very moment I felt like quitting was the moment I was closest to a breakthrough. That season taught me that surrendering to God is different from giving up—and choosing Him is what kept me going.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say what really matters to me is my faith, my purpose, and the people I love. They know I’m passionate about living a life that honors God, uplifting others, and creating spaces where people feel seen, encouraged, and valued. They’d probably tell you I care deeply about making a positive impact—whether it’s through my ministry, my work, or simply being there for someone in their time of need. They’d also say I treasure authenticity, meaningful connections, and living in a way that leaves both a spiritual and personal legacy behind.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had 10 years left, I would stop overthinking and holding myself back out of fear or doubt. I’d stop saying “yes” to things that drain me just to keep the peace, and I’d stop shrinking my dreams to fit into what feels safe or comfortable. I wouldn’t waste another minute trying to please everyone or living by other people’s timelines. Instead, I’d make room for the things that truly matter—loving fully, serving boldly, chasing the visions God placed in my heart, and living every day like it’s a gift, not a guarantee.
