Hi Al-Nisa , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, things that bring me joy are walking, swimming, and going to concerts.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a local comedian in the RTP area in North Carolina, but I am originally from New Jersey. I am a stand-up comedian and producer, and I am expanding monthly comedy shows throughout the United States.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship as parent and eldest sister has shaped me over the years by enabling me to stand up for myself and ways to empower my voice as a woman. As a parent with a child with individual disability, I had to advocate for her and also address issues that caregivers need to help with. I have learned that as a woman advocating for yourself and others can be invigorating.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most in my life has been financial insecurities. My mom was a single parent and it was often hard to see her struggle, work multiple jobs, and provide for us. As a divorced mom myself,f I have often had to make hard decisions on providing financial security and being an active mom in my children’s lives. Financial status and providing a loving home require balance, and over time, I learned that it definitely takes a village to obtain. I am grateful to have a strong extended family and children who believe in me, as well as I believe in them.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is the real me for sure. I have never been one to keep up with a persona; I can’t fake being me. Being me doesn’t come with effort, but faking takes too much effort. I love being me and the weirdness that I exude. I enjoy making people laugh, and I also enjoy myself. I often tell people I will continue doing comedy as long as I enjoy it. That is a real as it can get.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
My only regret is that I didn’t take a chance on myself in my youth; I wish I knew what I know now in my 20’s or 30s. I have to take more chances in life to fulfill lifelong dreams and goals
