We recently had the chance to connect with Khandi Gibson and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Khandi, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I felt proud January 23 2025 when my organization FOAM held it’s groundbreaking ceremony on 2 Acres or property for it’s Shelter and Housing Project.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Khandi Gibson – A Voice for the Voiceless
Khandi Gibson is a celebrated humanitarian, author, and community advocate whose life’s mission is rooted in compassion and justice. She is the recipient of the prestigious Order of Merit for her exceptional humanitarian work and is the author of Still I Rise. She also designed the meaningful “In-Memory-Of” bracelets, a tribute to lives lost and love remembered.
In 2012, Khandi founded FOAM (Families of All Murder Victims)—a non-profit organization committed to supporting families affected by violent crime. Under her leadership, FOAM has received three Proclamations from the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, officially recognizing January 23 as “Families of All Murdered Victims Day”. For over 13 years, she has worked tirelessly under the powerful motto:
“Making Life Easier for Those in Need and Hurting Amongst Us.”
As FOAM’s Founder and Director, Khandi oversees the FOAM Community Center and the Agape Emergency Housing Project, offering critical support to grieving families throughout The Bahamas. Her impact extends far beyond local borders—Khandi is an International Chaplain, Justice of the Peace, National Youth Leader, and has been honored as a National Hero.
In 2024, her extraordinary leadership earned her a nomination by L’Oréal Caribe as one of the “45 Women That Move the Caribbean,” with her image displayed in Puerto Rico’s San Juan Mall. In 2025, she was nominated for the prestigious Caribbean POSH Icon Woman Award, that was held in St. Thomas.
Khandi’s vision for the future is bold and compassionate: a 24-hour “We Care” Center that includes a nursery, food bank, clothing outlet, restaurant-style feeding services, hot showers, counseling rooms, pastors’ sessions, and a homework kiosk—designed to provide holistic, around-the-clock care for those in need.
On January 23, 2025, she marked a major milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for this transformative venture.
Above all, Khandi Gibson attributes every achievement to her faith, stating proudly:
“To God be all the glory.”
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up I always thought that I could not do my own thing I only saw myself as working for persons being an employee but never a person who would leave their job retire at age 36 and start a non profit organization geared at helping children who lost a parent or both to murder.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes many times especially when person couldn’t see the vision to help the children who are now mother or fatherless due to violence. and the bills start to back up on me.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would say always being in a position to help those in need is what really matters to me.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When have you had to bet the company?
I bet FOAM non-profit organization in 2015 when my fiancé got murdered and everyone thought that was the end of the organization but I knew God had something greater in store
