We recently had the chance to connect with Merritt Anderson Crawley and have shared our conversation below.
Merritt, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I absolutely love being on the water. Living at the coast already feels like a gift, but recently purchasing my first boat has taken it to a whole new level. We’re soaking up every moment and truly enjoying life on the water
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Merritt Anderson Crawley – a coastal North Carolina REALTOR passionate about helping people find not just a house, but a lifestyle they love. My brand is built around relationships and community—I truly believe real estate is about more than thentransactions; it’s about creating a place where memories are made. I’m especially focused on helping buyers and sellers navigate this growing market while also highlighting the incredible lifestyle our coast has to offer. Right now, I’m working on expanding my reach and connecting with even more families looking to call this area home
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My parents. They have been the biggest support system my entire life and I’m so grateful for them
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
After my second year in real estate, I made the decision to leave my first company and join another, believing I’d be part of a promising team. Unfortunately, that opportunity didn’t unfold the way I was told it would, and at the time I was also juggling part-time retail work just trying to make it all click. It was a challenging season, but it ultimately pushed me to find my own path and build a business that truly reflects who I am and how I want to serve clients.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
It’s easy money. It’s the most comical thing I’ve ever heard:
People think real estate is all big commissions and flexible schedules. The truth? Most agents work long, unpredictable hours, way more than a average job and at all hours of the day at that andspend heavily on marketing, and only get paid when a deal closes. It isn’t selling sunset over here everyday.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Sometimes I think real estate really did choose me. When I was born, I was given a baby blanket covered in little houses — and I still have it to this day. Looking back, it feels like more than just a coincidence; it’s almost like a symbol that I was destined to help people find homes and help them the their dreams of homeownership. What started as a sweet childhood keepsake has become a reminder that this path was always meant for me.
