Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Vanessa Wright of High Point

We recently had the chance to connect with Vanessa Wright and have shared our conversation below.

Vanessa, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
A common misconception about my photography business is that it’s just about having a good camera and clicking a button. In reality, it’s a blend of art, technical skill, client experience, and hours of behind the scenes work like editing and planning. Each session is personalized to tell a unique story, whether it’s a maternity, a newborn, or a cake smash session. My goal is to create timeless memories that clients will cherish forever, and that process involves much more than what people see in the final image.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Vanessa Wright, and I am the founder and creative eye behind KVWright Photography. I specialize in capturing the most tender and unforgettable moments in maternity, newborn, and cake smash sessions. My brand is built on the belief that photography is not just about beautiful images but about creating an experience where clients feel comfortable, confident, and celebrated.

What makes my work unique is the personal connection I build with each family. I take the time to guide my clients through every detail from styling and posing to ensuring they feel at ease in front of the camera. Every session is customized to reflect their personality and story. Behind the scenes, I dedicate countless hours to editing each photo with care, transforming moments into timeless memories.

Currently, I am focused on expanding my services to reach more families who want to celebrate their life milestones with authentic and emotional imagery. I am passionate about empowering mothers to feel beautiful during their maternity journey and creating heirloom quality images that families will treasure for generations.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the most about work was my grandfather. He was one of the hardest-working and smartest men I’ve ever known. Growing up, I always remember seeing him busy around the house, fixing things, building, or taking care of projects that needed his attention. His hands were always working, and his mind was always focused. But what inspired me the most was that even when he wasn’t physically working, he was filling his mind and heart by reading the Bible.
He taught me that hard work isn’t just about staying busy, it’s about doing things with purpose, dedication, and humility. Watching him made me understand the value of staying curious, being resourceful, and always giving your best effort, no matter how small the task seems. Those lessons have stayed with me and are now at the core of how I run my photography business , with intention, passion and deep respect for every detail detail of my work.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
It’s ok not to have it figured out right now. One day, you’ll look back and be proud of how far you’ve come.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the photography industry is that anyone with a nice camera can be a photographer. This mindset devalues the years of learning, the creativity vision, and the client experience that true professionals bring. Another common lie is that photographers are “just taking pictures” when in reality, we are running a business, creating art, and capturing once in a lifetime moments that can’t be redone.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I lived with kindness, loved deeply, and left everyone I met feeling valued. That I worked hard to build a life I was proud of, not just for myself but for those I loved. And that I used my gifts to capture beauty, create memories, and make the world just a little brighter for the people in it.
