We’re looking forward to introducing you to Eronger Kornegay III. Check out our conversation below.
Eronger, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Getting in the car and sitting in traffic to get 30 minutes away
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, Bold Journey readers! My name is Eronger (Roger) Kornegay, and I’m the humble creative (and sometimes, the very confused taste tester) behind the Raleigh FoodTrap brand. If you’ve ever found yourself scrolling through Instagram at 2 a.m., drooling over a photo of a burger and thinking, “I need that in my life,” there’s a good chance that was us.
My wife, Briana, and I started Raleigh FoodTrap as a way to share our ridiculous obsession with food. We’re on a relentless quest to hunt down and, well, trap the most delicious things North Carolina (and beyond) has to offer. We’re basically the Indiana Jones of brunch spots and the Sherlock Holmes of sensational street food.
With over 489,000 followers (across platforms), our little food-loving family has grown bigger than our list of favorite places. We’ve been honored to be named WRAL’s Influencer of the Year twice, which basically means we’re professionally good at eating. We’re always on the move, expanding our adventures beyond just food to include cool things to do and great places to stay. Our current mission? To eat our way across the entire state, one amazing, calorie-filled bite at a time.
We’re just a couple of regular people with a hunger for adventure and a camera roll full of glorious food. Thanks for joining us on this wild, delicious ride!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Two years ago, we posted a Reel about an oxtail cheesesteak from Where’s The Jerk in Durham, NC. It went completely viral, and suddenly, lines of people were wrapped around the building for weeks. At that moment, watching a local spot get discovered by a whole new nation of customers, we truly understood the power of our page, our reach, and our influence.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
YES! This is a common state that most content creators find themselves in. Now this doesn’t happen often, because we truly love what we do, BUT it has happened before.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is what you get! The opinions, the reviews, the durag—it’s all 100% authentic. The people you see online are the exact people you’d meet in person.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I’d significantly reduce my work hours, cutting back from 70 hours a week to a more manageable 25. This change would allow me to be more present for my family’s moments and find myself less connected to the constant demands of the online social world.
