Kyndall Owens of Downtown Raleigh on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Kyndall Owens shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Kyndall, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve been making it a priority to get out of the house and focus on things that bring me joy and balance. I’ve been spending more time in nature, going on trail walks, catching up with friends and family, and setting aside time for self-care. I also recently got into boxing which has been a really fun and challenging way to stay active and even inspire some creativity.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Kyndall! I’m a visual artist who brings creativity to life through vibrant paint classes, live painting, and custom artwork. My signature style is all about bold, beautiful colors! I love using bright palettes to infuse energy and emotion into every piece.

Art has always been my favorite form of expression, being a way to communicate feelings and stories that words often can’t. My work often explores themes like the beauty of nature, self-love, and inner joy, all through a colorful and expressive lens. I enjoy working across a range of subjects, from portraits and landscapes to abstract designs, constantly challenging myself and evolving my style.

But for me, art isn’t just about what’s on the canvas, it’s about how it’s experienced. To me, art is a form of ministry, a way to share light, connect with others, and make a lasting impact. My mission is to use color and creativity to inspire, uplift, and spark a deeper appreciation for the arts in our community.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My parents were always incredibly supportive, encouraging my siblings and I to pursue excellence in everything we set our minds to. They taught us not to settle for being average, but to consistently aim higher and go above and beyond. That mindset has stayed with me and continues to drive me to give my best in everything I do, being a big part of what has led to my successes today.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to be confident in who you are and not to be afraid to share your talents with the world, no matter how people might respond. Your light and your art have the power to impact others, even if you don’t always see it right away.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Those who know me best would say I truly cherish quality time with family and friends. They’d also describe me as someone grounded in faith, fueled by passion, and always ready to share a good laugh.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m painting for hours, completely immersed in the process and losing track of time, with my favorite music playing in the background.
