We recently had the chance to connect with OfficialJWalker and have shared our conversation below.
OfficialJWalker, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is waking up for work. Coming home, doing what needs to be done around the house. I then go straight to the music and college work. Repeat. Right now, it is a consistent cycle of achievements and goals I am looking for. I try to eliminate distractions and make this a true focal point for my life of where I want to be in the next
5 years.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am OfficialJWalker. I’m a Rap and Hip-Hop Artist from the 828 in North Carolina, Lenoir but reside in Sawmills now. My movement is SuccessDontSleep. What makes it interesting? It’s being you. That’s a hard thing to come across these days. Believing in yourself. Seeing yourself as a something great. That is SuccessDontSleep. Currently I am working on releasing a few singles including an album within the next 6 months. I am planning some shows around the states, potentially international in 2026. I hope that through music, I can continue to share my story and create a reach to hearts that can relate to what I say and do.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My dad, my mother, a couple trainers I have worked with at a couple jobs including two named Cliff and Amos. Stand out and smart individuals. Tupac Shakur, DMX, Scarface are my main influences to the work within music. Seeing the love and passion they put into the music by the work they did, pushes me to another level of wanting to accomplish goals.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
The first show I ever did. 2012 or 2013ish. Charlotte, NC. I went to perform at a competition. I had a few friends and wanted to impress them by my song. I thought I was the winner before it even started. I was humbled. I placed a few spots from last. I remember walking out the venue saying “I’m done with this.” A friend named Skyler stopped me and told me “You never give up. I better not ever hear you say that again. You have a true talent and the world needs to hear it. People need it.” The whole ride home, I was still mad that I didn’t win, but what did I do? I went right to the music and improved and improved. I learned and started working harder than ever to never feel that way again.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The only version you’re getting of me is the real me. It never changes. I stay true to myself and my character. That’s what makes me unique. I’m real and that’s something that’s became hard to find.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
Probably playing baseball. I was so deep in love with the sport. Sometimes I wish I could go back and see what would have happened if I was to choose that path. What would have been the outcome? It’s always going to be a “What if?” situation that I will never know.
