We recently had the chance to connect with Josiah Russell and have shared our conversation below.
Josiah, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
To be authentically me, free from other people’s expectations. To stop conforming and performing for approval. I’m here to embrace the life God has gifted me and walk boldly in the way He designed me to live it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
What’s up y’all!? My name is Josiah Russell, and I am an entertainer & creative storyteller. Whether I’m behind the mic singing, on stage as an emcee, or recording a voiceover for a commercial, my passion is all about using my voice to connect with people. That’s what sparked Josiah Russell Media, my business where music, hosting, and storytelling all collide.
I bring my faith, energy, and personality into everything I do! I’m really big on creating relationships and being personable and authentic with everyone I encounter. From the Duke’s Mayo Classic & Bowl to everyday content on Instagram and TikTok, my goal is the same: to create moments that make people feel good about themselves and the moment they’re in. I want it to stick with them so that they have a little more joy leaving my page or presence than they did before.
Right now, I’m working on growing my music brand and building content that showcases the full range of what I do as an entertainer. It’s a journey, but it’s one I’m excited to share.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Rather than one single moment, it’s really been a series of them. My mother is literally my twin, we both have this gift of talking to strangers like we’ve known them forever, and just spreading love wherever we go. Watching her in action shaped so much of how I see the world. It taught me to treat everyone the same, whether they’re a custodian or a celebrity, because at the end of the day, we’re all human.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that’s held me back the most is the fear of not being perfect, my voice cracking while I’m singing, messing up on stage, or life not playing out exactly like I imagined every piece of the puzzle would. But then I realized life as a creative and an entrepreneur is messy. It’s unpredictable by design. So how can I expect everything to stay neatly inside the lines? I’ve had to learn that it doesn’t have to be perfect or pretty to be powerful!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to becoming the man of God that He created me to be, and that’s not something that happens overnight. It’s a lifelong process. I believe we’re constantly being shaped, stretched, and molded, and I’m dedicated to that journey of growth. For me, it’s about becoming the best version of myself, not just for me, but for the people I encounter and the platforms I’ve been blessed to stand on. I want everything I do to reflect that commitment. I know I’ll never “arrive,” but I’m okay with that, because the beauty is in the process. My mission is to walk it out daily with authenticity, grace, and faith, no matter how long it takes.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If I laid down my name, my role, and every possession I have, what would remain is my integrity and my character. The way I love people would still stand, because that’s bigger than any title. And most importantly, my faith in Jesus would remain; that’s the foundation on which everything else is built.
