Christopher Evans shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Christopher , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
A moment that recently made me proud was hosting my second solo art show this past August for my birthday. The collection reflected the progress of both my career and myself as a person. I had the opportunity to showcase my work from past to present and share it with supporters, friends, family, and art collectors. It was truly a great experience.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Christopher Evans, a self-taught artist/ tattoo artist and the owner of Good Trip Gallery in Raleigh, NC. Growing up in Apex, I’ve always drawn inspiration from music, culture, and the communities around me. Creating isn’t just a passion—it’s a necessity. My work is fueled by emotion and instinct, and I strive to make each piece a reflection of my journey while inviting others to feel, think, and connect through art.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I can’t say it was one specific moment, but tattooing has definitely changed the way I see the world. Through it, I’ve met so many people and had countless conversations that opened my eyes. It’s made me realize that while we’re all different, those differences are exactly what we should embrace.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
I decided to stop tattooing for a while to focus only on painting. Now, I’ve come back to it and continue to do both—painting and tattooing are things I’ve done for so long and still love. I’m grateful to be back at it, and yes, appointments are open! I’m also still taking painting commissions.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you have to do everything a certain way. A big part of my journey has been realizing there are no rules. Especially as artists, we don’t need to be so strict with ourselves or our creativity.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe so. Being an artist is something I’ve been since high school—it’s been a consistent part of my life. It wasn’t something people told me to do, but something I started on my own and have continued ever since. I’ve always had support, though. My family has been supportive from the start, and so have my friends. Over time, many collectors have even become friends and ongoing supporters.
