Today we’d like to introduce you to Monchaily Hendricks.
Hi Monchaily, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Honestly, I never set out thinking, “I’m going to start a business.” It really began with me just trying to help people. Back when I was working a regular 9-to-5, I noticed so many of my coworkers were unhappy in their jobs and struggling to get noticed elsewhere. One day, I offered to help a colleague redo their resume, and before I knew it, half the office was lining up for the same thing. A friend even told me, “You should really do this—the world needs people like you,” and that stuck with me.
Not long after, I met a small business owner in Jacksonville who made amazing pickles but had no idea how to get online. He ended up being my first big client. I was nervous, but once I built his website and saw how his business grew, something clicked—I realized this could be bigger than just a side project.
Over the years, I kept listening to people’s frustrations. Too many entrepreneurs were being overcharged, let down, or stuck with cookie-cutter solutions that didn’t reflect who they were. That’s when I decided to build Xelbooks, a one-stop shop where people could get the support, tools, and confidence they needed to really launch and grow their businesses.
My path hasn’t been smooth—I’ve had moments where I thought about quitting altogether. There were even years where I barely made anything and questioned whether I should just walk away. But resilience (and encouragement from my husband) kept me going. Eventually, I took the leap and went full-time with Xelbooks. Now, I get to wake up every day doing work I love—helping people bring their ideas to life and watching them grow into something bigger than they imagined.
Looking back, what started as me “just helping out” has become my purpose. It’s not just about logos, websites, or resumes—it’s about giving people the confidence to chase their dreams and showing them they don’t have to do it alone.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth? I wouldn’t say that. A more accurate word might be bumpy, twisty, with a few potholes thrown in for good measure. There have been months with no money and months of plenty, clients who made the journey joyful and others who made it really tough. But the hardest part by far has been the lack of financial backing. As a for-profit business, funding isn’t easy to find—most grants go to nonprofits—so I’ve had to figure out how to build this from the ground up.
That process has stretched me in ways I never imagined. I’ve had to toughen up, get wiser with sales, and become best friends with budgeting. Honestly, managing family bills feels like a breeze compared to business finances, but over time I’ve learned to take it one week at a time.
What really keeps me going is my faith and my kids. They’re my “why.” Whenever I feel like giving up, I remind myself of who I’m doing this for, and that gives me the strength to keep moving. I’ve come to believe that once you know your why, you can push through just about anything—even when the road isn’t smooth.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What do I do? I help people reach their goals. Sure, I could dress it up by saying I’m a digital support specialist, but honestly, I think of myself more as a “business BFF” that people never realized they needed. I take on all the digital design and tech-heavy stuff so my clients can focus on what they actually love doing. It’s kind of like being a tech support, business liaison, designer, and marketing guru all rolled into one umbrella—lol!
As for what I specialize in, I’d say graphic design is my sweet spot. I love creating logos, book covers, flyers, brochures—you name it. One of the most fun projects I’ve ever done was a storefront decal. There’s just something special about taking an idea that someone has in their head and bringing it to life in a way they can actually see every day. That’s not all that I do though. I also create websites, resumes, and teach courses on my creativity. You could call me a one-stop shop for digital design.
What I’m known for is my creative ‘eye’. People tell me all the time, “I could do that too, but I couldn’t do it like you.” That’s become a big part of my reputation—not just being able to design, but designing with a certain flair that stands out. That same creative edge is what caught attention in my last corporate role and led to me winning a Stevie Award for Sales Support Professional of the Year. Flying out to Vegas to be celebrated was surreal—especially since I was terrified of the long flight and the high-rise hotel room. That experience reminded me that accolades often require bravery.
Another moment I’m incredibly proud of is helping one of my very first website clients, Larry’s Seasoned Pickles. What began as just designing a website turned into something much bigger—Larry went from selling pickles in his barbershop to having vendors across several states, and his story was featured on ABC News for National Black Business Month!

That moment showed me Xelbooks isn’t just a “nice” idea—it’s a way to truly help people grow and make an impact.
And what sets me apart? I do custom work. That’s huge, because let’s be honest—anyone can make a design. But not everyone can make something thoughtful, tailored, and personal. My clients know they’re not getting a one-size-fits-all template. They’re getting my best—every… single… time. That’s the promise I stand on, and that’s the difference I bring.
What’s next?
I definitely have big plans for the future—though I can’t reveal everything just yet because I like to keep a little suspense, haha. One thing I’m really excited about is creating an exclusive business and design school for young people. There are so many youth who dream of starting their own business, but once they actually get into it, they hit roadblocks that can be discouraging. I want to pour my knowledge into them, give them a platform to launch their ideas, and help them navigate those challenges with a lot less red tape.
Of course, to make something like that happen, I’ll need more staff. But contrary to what most companies are doing, I don’t want a huge team—I want a solid one. I’ve seen too many businesses over-hire and then struggle later, and that’s not the route I want to take. My goal is to build a small but mighty team that I can really invest in. That way, my staff gets the support they need, I have the help I need, and my clients continue to get the best service possible.
So really, the future for me is about two things: hiring and teaching. I can’t wait to see the day when I’m not only helping entrepreneurs directly, but also raising up the next generation of business owners and creative thinkers. That’s the kind of impact I’m looking forward to making.
