Story & Lesson Highlights with Faith Ellis of Burlington

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Faith Ellis. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Faith, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I tend to wake up around 5:30 a.m. and immediately get up, get dressed, I let my puppy out, and go about beginning my workout. That usually takes place until about 7 o’clock. After this, I dedicate the next hour to an hour and a half journaling, doing my devotions, working on The KettleBelle, and reading some of my self-growth materials.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Faith Ellis, I was born and raised in North Carolina and I am a proud resident of Burlington, North Carolina. I am the founder of The KettleBelle, an online fitness and wellness hub for women where we provide workout programs, meal plans, meditations and more. My specialties include kettlebells and Reiki practices. The thing I feel makes us the most unique is that our platform is a well-rounded health hub from physical to mental wellness and people have direct contact with me, your coach and your cheerleader.

I started The KettleBelle because I advocate for women to strength train and to focus on their mental health, it’s all-inclusive, it shouldn’t be one or the other. Through The KettleBelle, I am bringing women together to get strong, support each other, and build a community where they all feel safe and heard.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I grew up extremely independent and with this “perfectionist” type of mindset. I had to do everything and I had to do it just right. Unfortunately, it developed so much anxiety and overwhelm within me. For a while, I believe this part of myself pushed me, it taught me grit, it forced me to figure things out. But, I realize now that to be my best self I have to release these, it’s okay to ask for help and it’s okay not to get everything right all the time. I do the best I can and I outsource when I need something done that I can admit I do not understand how to do.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Frequently! Look, this goes back to my perfectionist qualities; if I don’t see the results I think I should be seeing, I wonder if I’m good enough. There are so many times, still today, that I consider giving up. I just keep in mind that 1) I love what I do and 2) most businesses fail because they give up. If you don’t give up, you don’t actually fail – you’re still pushing.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
It is! One of the reasons why I say (or think) my social media doesn’t go too viral is because it’s maybe TOO authentic hahaha. Whether it’s public on social media or in real life, I am very much so not putting on a front. There are days I don’t eat right or want to workout, there are days I don’t feel great or am tired, but I still do the things that need to be done. I am very much so not one for procrastination or excuses. When I’m teaching classes sometimes I mess up, forget a rep, forget what we are doing – it goes back to letting that perfectionist side of me go. We’re all human and doing the best we can.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Growing up, I always felt there was a bigger purpose for me. I’ve felt that way my entire life. When I discovered kettlebells years ago, and I started sharing them with other people, it’s like something clicked. Every part of me believes this is what I was born to do. When I talk to people, teach people, meet people – I feel in my soul, somehow, this is my purpose. I’ve never felt this way about anything else in my life. Even if it never made me wealthy, I’d still do it.
