Hi Virginia, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I am most proud of building, that often goes unseen, is the heart of my business. People usually see the finished products the beautiful gifts and gift baskets, the bows, and the smiles they create but what they don’t always see are the countless hours of thought, care, and love that go into each one. Behind the scenes, I’ve worked hard to build strong relationships, source meaningful products, and create a business rooted in kindness and connection. I’m proud of the dedication, late nights, and small details that most people will never notice, but that make all the difference. Knowing that this unseen effort brings joy to others is what fills me with pride.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Virginia, and I am the owner of Perfect Selection Creative Gifts, a woman-owned business based in the Lake Norman, NC area. After spending more than 20 years as a registered dental assistant, I followed my passion for creativity and design by building a company that specializes in curated, high-quality gift baskets and custom gifting solutions.
What makes my brand unique is the personal touch behind every creation. I don’t just assemble items into a basket I carefully and meticulously design gifts that feel thoughtful, meaningful, and memorable. Each basket is tailored to celebrate life’s moments, whether it’s welcoming a new baby, honoring a wedding, supporting a business milestone, or simply making someone’s day brighter.
What I am most proud of is the joy these gifts bring not only to the recipients but also to the clients who trust me to represent their love, gratitude, or appreciation through my work. At Perfect Selection Creative Gifts, it’s about more than just a product; it’s about creating an experience of warmth, connection, and delight.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would say my husband saw me clearly before I fully saw myself. From the very beginning, he recognized my creativity, drive, and ability to bring joy to others through thoughtful gifts and meaningful gestures. He encouraged me to pursue my passion for designing and creating gift experiences long before I had the confidence to take the leap into entrepreneurship. His belief in me and my vision gave me the courage to see my own potential and build the business I am so proud of today.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to trust her instincts and believe in her own creativity and abilities. I’d remind her that it’s okay to take risks, to follow her passions, and that the journey may not always be straightforward but the dedication, patience, and care she puts into her work will lead to something meaningful and rewarding as it has. Most importantly, I’d tell her to be gentle with herself and celebrate the small victories along the way. There have been many to celebrate!
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Fads are fun, but they’re short-lived they pop up quickly and fade just as fast. Foundational shifts, however, are about meaningful, lasting change. They reshape behaviors, influence industries, and solve real needs. I look for trends that show staying power and real-world impact.

Yes, absolutely! I’ve had those “tap dancing to work” moments especially when I first launched my business, Perfect Selection Creative Gifts. After spending over 20 years in a completely different field, stepping into my passion felt electric. Those early days of designing my first big corporate orders, meeting with clients, and seeing the joy my baskets brought to recipients gave me so much excitement I could hardly wait to start each day. Even now, when I take on a particularly meaningful project like weddings or corporate gifting for large groups I still get that same spark of enthusiasm that reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.
