Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Danielle Miller of Havelock

Danielle Miller shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Danielle , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
My day-to-day schedule is quite full. I work from 8 to 5, and afterward I transition into my role as a mom or dedicate time to photography sessions. My evenings usually wrap up after putting my son to bed, either with editing or a workout at the gym.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Danielle Miller, and I’m both a photographer and an author. My passion lies in portrait photography, where I focus on capturing genuine emotion and storytelling, I strive to capture more candid moments, and emotions through my lens. Alongside photography, I am also an author and poet. My debut book, Logophile, reflects my love for words and the way love is through my eyes, and I’m currently working on my second book. Through both photography and writing, I strive to create meaningful art that connects with people on a deeper level.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I think a purpose that’s served its time is letting other people’s opinions affect you. I came across a quote a while back—unfortunately, I don’t know who said it—but it stuck with me: ‘If it was easy, everyone would do it.’ That really speaks volumes. People often share opinions rooted in their own limitations, not yours. They may think something is impossible because it feels hard to them. But I’ve learned not to let their beliefs about themselves stop me from pursuing my own greatness.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One of my biggest challenges was the fear that I wasn’t enough. For a long time, I doubted that I could ever reach the dreams or goals I set for myself, and sometimes I even forgot how far I had already come. That mindset held me back because I truly believed I wasn’t enough. But in those moments, I turned to prayer, and I felt God reminding me to keep going—that my dreams weren’t finished yet. That shift helped me realize that my dreams are never-ending, and that I’ll always be more than enough to keep striving toward them.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that consistency and honesty matter the most to me—besides being a good mom, which always comes first. I really believe consistency is key, no matter what it is—whether it’s writing twice a day, finishing a gallery on time, or editing at least five photos a day. Staying consistent builds discipline and trust. And then there’s honesty. These days, honesty can feel rare, but I think being honest in your work and with yourself is one of the best things you can do.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I truly believe I’m doing what I was made to do. No matter what, I always find myself coming back to photography and writing. Even if I set them aside for a while, I’m always guided back to them in the smallest but most beautiful ways. And for me, the most important part is that I do it out of pure love—that’s what makes it feel like this is what I was born to do.
