Story & Lesson Highlights with Ashleyh Korgar of Raleigh

We recently had the chance to connect with Ashleyh Korgar and have shared our conversation below.

Ashleyh, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am most proud of the work I have done in building the hopes, dreams, and confidence of a group that is often misunderstood—teenagers. Through mentorship, guidance, and the creation of supportive opportunities, I have been able to help young people recognize their potential, embrace their unique talents, and develop the confidence to pursue their goals. This experience has not only allowed me to witness their growth firsthand but has also strengthened my own commitment to fostering environments where young people feel seen, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ashleyh Korgar in my everyday life, and in the moments when I step back into the spotlight, I go by Ashleyh Yemi’a. At this point in my journey, I am in a season of giving back and pouring into my community through a place that helped raise me—the Boys & Girls Club of Wake County. I currently serve as the Program Director of The Club – Teen Center, where I have the privilege of guiding and mentoring high school students as they prepare to transition into the workforce or college.

Throughout my life, I have been someone who learns best through exposure and experiences. That same philosophy shapes the way I lead teens today. I strive to instill in them the values of confidence, accountability, and the importance of seizing opportunities that may only come once in a lifetime.

Outside of my role at the Club, I am also a media personality. When I accepted the call to serve teens, the spotlight I once stood in dimmed for a season. Yet, I now see that this pause was necessary. It allowed me to grow, to serve, and to align my passions with a greater purpose. Today, as doors in media begin to reopen, I understand that the light I carry is meant to shine even brighter—not just for myself, but as a reflection of the impact I’ve made and the lives I continue to inspire.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The desire to become a superstar—the need to be relevant and to impact lives on a massive scale—was once the driving force behind my ambitions. That pursuit fueled my determination, made me goal-oriented, and pushed me to remain dedicated and sharp in all that I did. But then, I encountered the reality of a door closing—not because I had failed or done anything wrong, but because it marked the beginning of one of the most challenging spiritual tests I would ever face.

The hosting calls stopped. The red carpets came to a halt. And in that silence, I was led into a lesson of faith I didn’t know I needed. God revealed to me that the gifts He blesses us with are not designed for our personal glory but to bring glory to Him.

It was during this season of surrender that I met the youth I now serve. Listening to their stories, walking with them through their challenges, and witnessing their resilience reshaped my perspective. I realized that while I once longed to change lives from a stage, my true platform was right in front of me—the next generation. Through them, I’ve learned that significance isn’t measured by fame or spotlight, but by the lasting impact we make in the lives we touch.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Long-suffering and enduring offenses are often the necessary prequalifications for the blessings and rewards already assigned to our names.

Scripture reminds us that weapons will form against us—but they will never prosper. This truth assures us that the story has already been written with victory in mind. Our responsibility is to remain in alignment with God’s will, trusting that His plan positions us to overcome and to walk fully into the promises He has prepared.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Everyone else being good and happy! (Now who you ask will determine if this is a good or bad thing lol.)

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Many of us misunderstand the difference between passion and purpose. Too often, we treat them as the same, when in truth they are distinctly different.

Our passions are the skills we have developed, the interests we’ve nurtured, and the identities we’ve built along the way. They are meaningful, but they are not the ultimate destination. Purpose, however, goes deeper—it is the process of aligning with God’s plan for our lives and walking into the divine assignments He has specifically designed for us.

When we begin to see our passions as tools that can be used within the framework of God’s purpose, we gain clarity. Passion may open doors, but it is purpose that sustains us, directs us, and allows us to live in the fullness of who we were created to be.
