Davin Kearney shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Davin, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I must say, in the summer months its a joy to come together with family, while smoking meats on the grill and having a cookout. Its always special when everyone is in the same space laughing, telling jokes, smiling while our belly’s are full.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Davin Kearney, i am the owner of FatBoys Kitchen. Originally started on a pig cooker. Serving up yummy dishes at call centers. Saved money to purchase a food trailer in 2017. With great support from the community i was able to purchase a second food truck in 2019. With hard work and keep food quality consistence, i got my first brick and mortar restaurant in 2021, it didn’t stop there i wanted people to experience the great food is other counties. So we expanded to Wake Forest in 2024. I love doing what i do, it make happy to see others enjoying what i built. Our staff is like family. When you love what your doing its not like working more like having fun.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
I can honestly say my grandmother as well as my mom had the greatest impact on me wanting and loving to cook.
Just watching them as a child.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were times that i was exhausted to the point that i just needed a break. But i never gave up and kept pushing and it paid off for me. In the beginning is was just me know i have 27 great staff members and i don’t have to work as hard anymore. They have my back and are able to pick-up the slack
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I stand on what i believe. I am genuine, eazy going and i will never change.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I regret not starting sooner
