We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ray Remington. Check out our conversation below.
Ray, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I think for me I’m being called to start a photography business and maybe even start a non-profit behind it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a singer-songwriter and photographer. I like to take photographs with a cinematic approach to tell a story. I’m also learning that I want to be more community driven. So, I’ve got some ideas on how to build that.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Probably that it’s okay for me to be loved and to love back. It’s okay to be vulnerable and to let someone in to your personal space.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me that there are moments to learn to grow and thrive. There is a time and place for everything. Sometimes you have to learn to grieve a situation. I know I have had to many times in my life.
I don’t have the words perfectly but I know Robert Frost had mentioned something along the lines of when something is difficult, the only way to get out of it is through it.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I think there are so many opinions out there today including even AI prying into our lives to at we forget to listen to ourselves. Listen to your intuition and your gut. There is a lot of noise out there. Center yourself and remember to value your truth and perspective along the way.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
You know I’ve got to children. Wonderful boys that are growing so fast. I hope when people remember me they don’t remember me for being a good songwriter or singer. But that they’ll remember me for being a great Father to Ben and Logan.
I’ve fallen in love with an Irish Woman. Suzanne is the best thing to happen to me aside from me being a Father. I’m getting married this Fall to Suzanne. She’s got a private holistic practice in New York called Sunday Skincare NY. You guys should check it out.
She’s the toughest woman I know. She understands grief and suffering and chooses to be a light. That is incredible to me. We’ll be up in Lake Placid in October and I think life is really about to change for us as a family in a great way. The kids love her and call her mom. It’s the happiest I’ve been my whole life.
With that said I hope people remember me as a wonderful Father and Husband. That’s all that matters to me.
