Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawson Byerly.
Hi Dawson, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I got out of college, I was looking for a job anywhere and everywhere- but nobody would hire me due to the lack of experience. I ended up waiting tables and working multiple jobs. After a year went by I served on a real estate agent named Melissa Greer. I suppose she took a liking to me and I started out as a personal assistant and home stager for her. As time went on I decided it was best that I tried to learn how to do the business on my own time and efforts. I quit my job and interviewed with several firms, but I wanted to work with the Smith Marketing team so bad I waited 3 months to hear back from them. They gave me the chance to work by myself and guided me when needed, but things were hard. I worked multiple jobs (construction and serving tables) while also learning the ropes of Real Estate. I’m not quite sure how I got to where I am today… I just kept my head down and continued to work towards my goals and I suppose time flew by.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been easy. Being young in this industry has come with its challenges — many clients were hesitant to take me seriously at first due to my age. I’ve had to work twice as hard to prove my knowledge, professionalism, and dedication. Through perseverance and a commitment to constant learning, I’ve built trust, refined my expertise, and shown that age doesn’t define capability or success.

It’s hard to predict exactly where the real estate industry will be in 5 to 10 years, as technology, markets, and client expectations continue to evolve.
