Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Materno.
Hi Lydia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was a Life-flight Nurse Practitioner who helped save preemies lives and in the NICU.
I’m a board-certified nurse practitioner and have practiced nursing for over 20 years. Im a first-generation Cuban American and am fluent in Spanish and am from Miami..
“As part of the lifeflight crew in Miami, I flew in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters all over South Florida and the Caribbean to rescue premature babies, bring them back to the NICU, and help save their lives.”
In 2018, I moved to the Raleigh area and worked here in the NICU, continuing to treat high-risk preemies. That often meant intubating them and putting in central lines through their belly buttons up into a large arteries and veins near their hearts.
For the past two years, though I switched into another passion which is Aesthetics, and that’s my focus now. I give injections like Botox and other toxins, like Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Letybo, plus Sculptra and facial fillers.
“My goal is to help women and men improve their looks and how they feel about themselves in a comfortable and professional way.”
I enjoy advising both long-term and new clients on their best course of treatment to yield the best results.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my professional challenges was getting my Master’s in Nursing in order to become a Nurse Practitioner, while pregnant and working as an RN.
Another challenging thing was working 24 hr shifts after I became a Nurse Practitioner while having a small child. It was tough, but I loved making a profound positive impact in the lives of those little ones.
As a single mother, I also successfully faced the challenge of ensuring my daughter got into a good local school middle and high school and I continue to help her thrive as a young woman.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I provide different services such as Botox, Dermal Fillers and Sculptra.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve always been a risk-taker. Flight transports, white water rafting, zip lining in the rainforest, and creating my med spa business is just some examples.
I’ve rappelled down waterfalls in Costa Rica and hiked all the way down into the Grand Canyon to camp overnight and hike back up. Also.
