What began as a simple dream quickly evolved into a full-time career that I’m deeply passionate about. Photography started as a creative outlet — a way for me to capture the beauty I see through my own eyes, because I truly believe we all view the world differently. Over time, that passion transformed into a purpose. I’m grateful every day for the rapid growth of my business and the opportunities I’ve had to expand my skills and artistry. Most importantly, I thank God for blessing me with this gift and allowing me to share it with others through my work.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. The photography world is incredibly saturated, especially in my area, so finding a way to stand out was both a challenge and a turning point in my journey. I realized early on that success would come from creativity, connection, and staying true to my own vision. That’s when I began developing unique concepts like my Halloween creative sessions, the Wilmington Bachelor blind date photoshoots, and my monthly “Pay It Forward” shoots — each one designed to bring people together and celebrate real emotion.
Over time, my work expanded to include weddings, elopements, families, and portraits, allowing me to tell so many different stories through my lens. Every experience — from a couple’s first look to a family’s laughter — reminds me why I fell in love with photography in the first place. Standing out wasn’t just about being different; it was about creating meaningful moments that last forever.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a full-time photographer and the owner of Misty Lynn Photography, specializing in weddings, elopements, families, couples, portraits, and creative concept sessions. My work is a blend of storytelling, emotion, and artistry — I strive to create photography that you can feel, not just see.
Over time, I’ve become known for my imaginative and heartfelt approach. From my Halloween creative shoots and the Wilmington Bachelor blind date series to my monthly “Pay It Forward” sessions, each project is designed to connect with people on a deeper level and celebrate the beauty in real, unscripted moments.
What truly sets me apart is my ability to see beauty through a different lens and to help others see themselves the way I do — full of light, love, and authenticity. I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me to capture their biggest milestones and most meaningful moments. For me, photography isn’t just about taking pictures; it’s about preserving emotions and telling stories that last far beyond the frame.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I wish I could say I have time to dive into books, podcasts, or blogs, but honestly — who has time? Between shooting, editing, and running a business, most of my free hours are spent behind the computer perfecting galleries or preparing for the next session. Editing alone can take up countless hours, but it’s also where a lot of the magic happens.
That said, I do find inspiration in the work of other photographers and in everyday life — through light, emotion, and human connection. I’m constantly learning just by observing the world around me and pushing myself creatively. For me, growth doesn’t always come from resources or routines; it comes from passion, persistence, and the love I have for what I do.
