Chef Quincy Jones shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Quincy , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Absolutely, I would hire me — because I know the level of excellence, consistency, and heart I bring to the table every single day. In this industry, your reputation is built on your effort, and I don’t take that lightly. I’m driven, disciplined, and hands-on with every detail — from the quality of the food to the guest experience.
I believe in doing things with purpose and passion. Whether it’s a private dinner, a catered event, or developing new products for my brand, I hold myself to a high standard. I’m dependable, creative, and I don’t stop until the job is done right.
What sets me apart is my mindset I don’t just cook; I create experiences. I lead with integrity, I stay teachable, and I’m always looking for ways to grow and elevate what I do. So yes, I would definitely hire me because I know I bring value, leadership, and a true love for my craft to every opportunity.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Quincy Jones, but most people know me as Chef Q. I’m a private chef, caterer, and food entrepreneur — the owner of Taste of Soul Catering and Intimate Eats with Chef Q. My passion is creating unforgettable food experiences that bring people together, whether that’s through private dinners, exclusive events, or community gatherings.
Cooking, for me, isn’t just a job it’s purpose. I take pride in delivering excellence, creativity, and consistency with every dish I serve. Over the years, I’ve built my brand on authenticity, community, and quality giving people not just a meal, but a memorable experience filled with flavor and connection.
At the end of the day, my mission is simple: to feed the soul, inspire others, and create opportunities where everyone can succeed together
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe what breaks the bond between people is pride, lack of communication, and forgetting how to see each other’s hearts. Too often, we let ego, assumptions, or past pain get in the way of understanding one another. When people stop listening, stop extending grace, and stop showing love — that’s when the connection starts to fade.
But what restores those bonds is humility, forgiveness, and genuine effort. When we take the time to communicate, to listen, and to serve each other with compassion , that’s where healing begins. For me, food has always been a bridge. It brings people back to the table , a place where walls come down, conversations start, and relationships are rebuilt.
At the end of the day, love and understanding are what connect us. And sometimes, all it takes is sharing a meal, a moment, and a little grace to bring that bond back together.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self, ‘You are enough, and your journey has purpose.’ Don’t let anyone tell you what you are or aren’t capable of. Don’t let people put you in a box or try to shape you into what they want you to be. You were created with your own gifts, your own vision, and your own path — and that’s something no one else can define for you.
Never be afraid to dream big, even when others don’t see your vision. And when you have doubts or can’t see the full picture, seek God for understanding. He’ll always guide you where you’re meant to be, even when the road doesn’t make sense in the moment. Stay true to yourself, stay grounded in faith, and remember — your difference is your strength.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would probably say that what matters most to me is family, loyalty, and love. They’d tell you I’m loyal to the core once I care about you, I’ve got your back no matter what. They know I’ve got a deep, genuine love for my family and for the people I hold close to me.
They’d also say I’m funny , I like keeping things light and making people laugh, even when life gets heavy. But underneath that, they know I’ve got a big heart. I care deeply about the people around me, and I’ll go out of my way to make sure they’re good. That’s just who I am loyal, loving, and always looking out for my people
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m spending time with my family just making memories, laughing, and enjoying the moment together. Those times mean everything to me because that’s where I find balance and purpose outside of the hustle.
And honestly, I also find peace in those quiet moments sitting on my patio by the fire pit, listening to some John Legend, sipping a glass of wine or a nice bourbon, and just reflecting. That’s when I slow down, breathe, and thank God for how far I’ve come. Those simple moments remind me that peace doesn’t always come from doing more sometimes it comes from being still and appreciating what you already have.
