Today we’d like to introduce you to MORGAN COUNTER.
MORGAN, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a former baseball player from youth through high school, I always had a love for the game and passion to pursue it as far as it would take me. Unfortunately, that was cut short with a shoulder injury in my late teen years. It ultimately did not allow me to continue my pitching career but the care of the game never left me. A few years later I settled down and started a family with that being my sole focus but I never stopped watching and learning more about baseball from a leadership perspective. Fast forward to 2022 and I accepted the head coaching position at my daughters high school for both varsity and middle school. I was brought in to add value and revamp the baseball program, as it had suffered significantly from both success and interest from the student organization. The first year was mildy successful with a few wins, we ramped up into the next year with a strong foundation in place to drive the sport at the school. Our second year, we finished in the top in middle school and made it in to the playoffs in high school. The previous year we continued to grow the program to much more success and drive to make our program one that stands out in the community. Through all of this Ninth Inning Academy (www.ninthinningacademy.wixsite.com/baseball) was created to create an opportunity in a community where outside coaching and instruction was minimal at best. My approach as a coach was much different than what I experienced ass a youth athlete and even some of the athletes now, with a strong ability to have an adaptable coaching style that integrated with my different types of learning styles from youths to teens. We have hosted numerous camps throughout the past 3 years that have driven success and has brough back many athletes in return in many circumstances. We have also partnered with US Baseball Academy to host large winter and summer camps for athletes of all ages.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building the baseball program at Ascend Leadership Academy in Sanford, NC has been challenging since we started from scratch and are also a non-profit public charter school but it has more-so been exciting, rewarding and successful all at the same time. Taking a nearly non-existent program and building passion, love and excitement for the game with the current student organization is what we are truly all about. With Ninth Inning Academy, it was utilizing the years of experience and success to build a brand outside of the school environment and making it a place for all skill levels, learning types and more to focus on the rules, teamwork, leadership and fundamentals of baseball.

At Ninth Inning Academy we specialize in all position coaching for baseball. We have specific training, drills, mechanics, workouts and action plans for each individualized training sessions. We ideally suggest a minimum 5 session package but are completely open to whatever suits you and your child’s needs.
