Life & Work with Tokishia Dockery-Ragland of Garner/Raleigh Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tokishia Dockery-Ragland.

Hi Tokishia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Relentless Church is a gospel-centered, forever-focused, multiethnic church in the Garner/Raleigh area. I’ve been a part of multiethnic churches for the past 23 years and have volunteered and been employed in ministry for just as long! I was invited to attend Relentless Church in 2019 and have made it my church home since then. I’ve been on staff at Relentless since 2021 and currently serve as the Director of Operations & Children’s Ministry. It’s been a blessing to be part of a church community focused on sharing the gospel to all. Our church community is diverse in race, ethnicities, socioeconomics, and political views. We are a true reflection of the unconditional love of Christ!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Working and serving in ministry always comes with a range of ups and downs because ministry involves people and we’re all either going through something, coming out of something, or right in the middle of something! Ministering to people, can be challenging at times, however the good always outweigh the challenges. It’s all worth it, and the payoff is immeasurable. The gift of being able to help people grow closer to God is a gift that keeps on giving. So, although the weather gets rough at times, I’ll continue planting seeds of faith and walking closely with others to provide and receive the relational community in which we all were created to live in for as long as God continues to call me closer to Him. I’ve learned that God always equips who He calls. The struggles are part of the journey; they make us all stronger.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My primary role as Director of Operations at Relentless Church is to understand and implement the church’s vision. I oversee the church’s day-to-day operations and organization in support of our various ministries. I work closely with the Lead Pastor, Associate Pastors, and Ministry Leaders so that all of the ministries can thrive and be aligned in vision, values, and strategies. The vision or Relentless Church is to be a gospel-centered, forever-focused, multiethnic movement of God! I’m most proud of our authenticity, transparency, and how relational we are as a church. We champion relationship over religion. Relationship with Jesus and relationship with one another. We’re a church that prays for another, shows up for one another, and loves one another which is what God calls us to do. I’m most proud of being a part of a church and part of a staff that actually lives this out! This is what sets us apart from others. What sets “me” apart from others is that when I’m called by God to do His work, regardless of what others may think, I am “all in”, with a “whatever it takes” attitude, striving for excellence in what’s put before me, because I want to give my all to the One who called me.

As a Children’s Ministry Director, my goal is to partner with parents to introduce their children to Jesus on a level that they can understand. I work hard to bring the Bible to life for kids. I would never want to present the gospel to them in a boring way! So, I get the opportunity to lead a wonderful coordinator, Melissa Benson, and a dedicated team of volunteers to focus on the following – providing Care for the little ones so that they feel and see the love of Christ through us and feel safe. We focus on Engaging preschoolers by providing Bible Stories and worship music and hands-on activities for their age level. Lastly, we prioritize Connecting with elementary students in a fun environment where they experience large group worship and small group time with leaders filled with activities, games, and relevant discussions for their age group. I’m most proud being able to care for and watch little ones grow year after year physically and spiritually. It’s always an amazing day to witness a child accept Christ and decide to live their life following Him!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m not sure! Perhaps that I lived in Germany for a short time. I was in high school in Bavaria Germany in 9th-10th grades. Or perhaps that I’m a writer, I absolutely love poetry, really all of the arts! I teach a poetry class and a dance class on Fridays!
