Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Lowenberg.
Hi Dan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began teaching music lessons in 2012 at a music school in Florida. As time went on I became the head of the guitar department of that school while also taking teaching jobs at other locations. During this time I also established a number of my own private students.
In order to better equip students I went back to school. After finishing my bachelors degree in music, my wife and I got married and moved to North Carolina. With a fresh start in a new area, Lowenberg Music Lessons with born. Initially, I alone offered guitar and bass lessons. Since that time we have brought on other teachers and now offer piano, and vocal lessons as well. Because we offer lessons in person as well as online, we are able to serve students nationwide!
Teaching music lessons is such a rewarding experience. I’ve had the pleasure of teaching students age 7 to 77 who want to learn to express themselves musically. An added bonus is that some of these students have even become like extended family. Music brings people together in a way few other things can. It is one of the things in people’s lives that they never regret pursuing!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For us the most common struggles are continuously finding efficient ways to advertise. You may be able to do a blanket advertisement through one medium and receive a lot of inquiries, but to get the kind of clients who are serious about pursuing music lessons can sometimes be a challenge. While we have many wonderful students who we couldn’t be more thankful for, there are times where people will inquire with seemingly serious interest who ultimately just stop responding without a word of letting us know that they’ve reconsidered. This can be challenging, but it is all part of growing as a business owner to learn what works, and what does not.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Lowenberg Music Lessons we create personalized lessons that give you the tools to get you playing the music you’ve always loved. While we do orchestrate lessons to get you on your musical feet as soon as possible, what separates us is also give you the, “why behind the what.” In other words, we are outfitting you with foundational tools that you will learn how to use and practice efficiently no matter the application.
We can do this especially well because not only are all of our teachers are musically credentialed, but they are also active musicians themselves. This means the information that you are being taught is both from a learned, and boots on the ground practical perspective. These are musicians who can show you the techniques that you need to breakthrough to the next level, but also how to be gig ready. In this way lessons can be as formal for someone wanting to dive deep into college level music theory, or informal for the student whose goal is to play a few of their favorite songs for their family around the campfire.
What I am most proud of is being able to help students reach the potential within each of them. Sometimes in life we tell ourselves lies about how certain things such as learning an instrument is something reserved for special people to be able to do, but not meant for us (I know I did). What I love being able to do most is to know that everyone is capable of achieving their goals. A good teacher can see the potential that is within a student and help to draw it out.
Playing music is for everyone. No matter the your location, or potential setbacks you may have experienced in the past we can help! We can serve you where you are at any stage of your development because we offer guitar, piano, voice, and bass lessons online!
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is that my students gain the tools necessary to play along with the music that has meant so much to them. I know what it has meant to me to learn how to play music. It has also brought so many meaningful relationships into my life.
Music has a way of being able to permeate every area of one’s life. To be able to go beyond listening, and actively engage in playing can have an even deeper impact. Students may also take the tools a step further and create their own music. Equipping students for a lifetime of enjoying music is so important to me because I know how it has shaped my life. It enriches you with a skill, but also connects you with others along the way.
